I'm a registered voter in the state of Michigan, but to my knowledge I've never signed up for any Republican mailing lists or phonebank qualifiers. After a flurry of robocalls hitting my house earlier in the week, the lines were mostly quiet until this morning, when the following Restore Our Future (Romney SuperPAC) robocall came in.
Full transcript below the fold.
Female recorded voice, the same performer who voiced a separate robocall earlier in the week. Emphasis noted in CAPS; smoothly customized content noted in [brackets].
Hi, [insert spoken first name].
The following is an important message from Restore Our Future.
It's Saturday morning [presumably customizable], and I'm calling you, and your neighbors in [insert city name] to be sure you know the FACTS about Rick Santorum's record as a big-spending Washington insider.
Santorum voted to spend millions on wasteful pork-barrel projects, like the bridge to nowhere, and an indoor rainforest. He voted to increase the debt ceiling FIVE TIMES, and in a single session in the Senate, Santorum co-sponsored FIFTY-ONE bills to increase spending, and NONE to cut spending. America can't afford politicians like Rick Santorum.
Paid for by Restore Our Future, and not authorized by any candidate or candidate's committee. 866-960-8266
As I noted in the intro, there were a flurry of robocalls early in the week (interestingly, they came in from official Romney campaign,
an unidentified source, and the "not coordinated" Romney SuperPAC in the same day).
There was also a sincere call from a live human volunteer in the Santorum campaign on Thursday asking whether Rick could count on my vote in Michigan's primary this Tuesday. I have to admit I was stumped; I never expected that call, and despite plans to vote in the Republican open primary myself did not know I ought to tell their caller.
One other curious tidbit: the female voice actor who recorded today's Restore Our Future robocall is the same voice that recorded one of the calls earlier in the week; I saved both and confirmed that it's the same person.
Anyone else in Michigan getting robocalled today?
1:26 PM PT: UPDATE: Right on schedule, the Romney campaign - WHO IS NOT COORDINATING WITH THE SUPERPAC - made a robocall to my house (same number as the previous SuperPAC call). I didn't get a recording/transcript of this call, but the talking points were oddly familiar: Rick Santorum voted to raise the debt ceiling 5 times. Rick Santorum voted for pork-barrel projects, including the Bridge to Nowhere. Rick Santorum voted to increase his own pay three times. I cannot trust Rick Santorum. Thank you for letting me share my thoughts about Rick Santorum. (Yes, they repeated RS's name over and over). Paid for by Romney for President, Inc. (Not coordinated with any SuperPAC, right?)
