Beneath is a FREE serialized audiobook. This science fiction adventure thriller was written by Jeremy Robinson, published in 2010. This is a special edition podcast narrated by Jeffrey Kafer. There is romance, brief sexuality, and minimal swearing in the story. This podnovel would be suitable for mid-teens to adults.
The story is well written. The description of the mechanics to prepare for space flight and the new world encountered is logical and believable, and the character dialogues flow easily. All in all, a good job done by Jeremy, especially for a free audiobook.
The Storyline
The largest planet in our solar system is Jupiter, and one of Jupiter's moons is named Europa. In this story, an asteroid has impacted with Europa many years ago and a portion of Europa falls to Earth as a metorite. What makes it through our atmosphere lands in the Arctic, and the Arctic is currently where Astrogeologist Michael Peterson is on expedition. Peterson sees the metorite land on the ice, and he and his team quickly move to retrieve it. They are hoping to find signs of foreign life.
At the other end of the world, Marine Biologist Kathy Connelly and her team members Safety Specialist Ethan Willard and Electronics Engineer Robert Samuels are exploring for signs of life in a lake under the ice crust of Antarctica. They are just about ready to take mics down into the lake and listen for life sounds, when they receive a fax from Global Exploration Corporation (GEC). They're chosen to be part of a crew to travel from Earth to Europa, and explore the ocean beneath Europa's ice crust.
Peterson is also going to be one of the crew. And the space team will be commanded by Captain Timothy Harris and a former CDC employee, now an Astronaut, Jen Choi from the GEC. After the crew meets, trains, and departs for Europa, they orbit and land on the moon. The story is their adventure looking for life on the surface ice of Europa and in the ocean located about a mile below the ice. Along the way, some of the crew realize their attraction to each other and begin to explore that as well.
But the main point of the story is to verify life exists on Europa, make contact with it and learn as much as possible about it, and get back to Earth with the information. Somehow, they must all pull together to complete this mission.
