I can't believe Congressman Cole just stood up to Speaker Boehner and said that he'd take a deal on cutting taxes for people who make under $250,000. Awesome, let's do it! Let's all pressure the swing-district Congresspeople into taking a deal right now. For real, I don't understand why everyone isn't jumping out of their chair to get on Organizing for America's website and push this through.
It decouples the tax cuts for the rich and makes them a separate debate-- beautiful. Kicks the problem down the road? Uh no, it ensures that tax cuts for the rich will not be passed.
I'm getting deja vu-- like the Health Care Reform debate went the same way, where people were kind of waiting to do their version of Health Care Reform, instead of jumping in at the crucial moments when the Tea Party was hastily being invented to oppose it.
I'm not a politico or a credentialed leftie-- so I might be blind to all the angles here-- but it just seems like this is the moment. This is the moment where we have our revenge and shove Bush/Rove's plan to restructure the American tax code in the wake of 9/11's tragedy RIGHT BACK DOWN THEIR THROATS.
11:35 AM PT: Update: Yes, I said revenge. And yes, I don't care if wealthy people also get a break on their first $250,000-- I have absolutely zero problem with that.
This is make or break time.
