The Crown Prosecution Service announced today (Tuesday) that charges are being laid against a Metropolitan Police officer and a Sun (News International/Corp) journalist:
Alison Levitt QC, the principal legal advisor to the Director of Public Prosecutions at the Crown Prosecution Service, said: "We have concluded, following a careful review of the evidence, that former Metropolitan Police Service police constable, Paul Flattley, and Virginia Wheeler, a journalist at The Sun newspaper, should be charged with conspiracy to commit misconduct in public office."
Her statement described how Mr Flattley was allegedly paid about £4,000 in the form of cheques and £2,450 in cash by the Sun newspaper between 25 May 2008 and 13 September 2011. At the time he was a serving police constable with the Met, meaning he allegedly breached the terms of his employment.
Ms Levitt continued: "The information provided included information about the tragic death of a 15-year-old girl, as well as details about both suspects and victims of accidents, incidents and crimes.
In other developments, the fake Sun story about a woman claiming benefits, reported here by
Ceebs, continues to have legs.
The main commercial TV station, ITV 's daytime magazine Show "This Morning" had an interview with the fake benefit claimant. This appears to have been conducted Monday and after the fraud had circulated among other right-wing rags. Belova's page on the actor's agency site she used has been taken down. The This Morning comments contain this interesting snippet:

this lady natalija belova was outed by the uk coloum yesterday as an actress with a full time job as a marketing and sales manager for a company called free water de ltd this is another fake media story to demonise people on benefits and foreign people.
I have contacted Ofcom (the broadcasting regulator) about this flagrant incitement to xenophobia and racism and their simply re-hashing a proven fake story (something which is against the broadcasting code). I would urge any other UK residents to do the same.
