This is a little bity fundraiser is over. You bought 42 of these:
As you probably know, Sara and Ann - or as I think of them, The Sisters Reed - A Force of Human Kindness - and a number of Kossacks who quilt are making 40 wheelchair sized quilts. Each of those quilts have a pocket on the back into which a little Teddy like this one will go. These Teddies are only 6" tall, and are soft and cuddly. They cost $6.00 each.
"What," you might ask, "would a hardened old veteran need with a soft, cuddly Teddy Bear?" Follow me beyond the FSM for an answer or two:
Answer #1: hardened old veterans melt in the presence of a toddler. Pulling out a Teddy Bear to share can be a really healing thing to do.
Answer #2: not all of the people getting the quilts are hardened old veterans. Some are very young veterans who are parents of youngsters. Can you imagine the happy dance a toddler will do if Daddy gives her or him a little Teddy Bear? And can you imagine the feeling the young veteran will get when he offers that little one a Teddy Bear?
This note from Sara:
People should send donations for the teddy bears to PayPal using this email address: rainwoman AT mac DOT com.
And if you missed peregrine kate's diary to help The Sisters Reed get to NN13: just click right here.
And yesterday Sara posted a Pootie Pad diary for wozzels ( - and it's about time): http://www.dailykos.com/...
So, would you be kind enough to buy a Teddy Bear, thankyouverymuch
1:16 PM PT: UPDATE: Only 23 more Bears are needed.
