It's Election Night in many states across the country, and we're liveblogging the results of races large and small. The biggest contests are for governor in New Jersey and Virginia and mayor in New York City, but there are many other hotly contested elections that are up for grabs, including attorney general and the state House of Delegates in Virginia; a key state Senate seat in Washington; and mayoral races in Boston, Seattle, and many other cities.
Results: New Jersey | New York | Virginia
6:00 PM PT: Polls are now closed in New York, where the mayor's race damn well better not offer us any surprises.
6:02 PM PT (Darth Jeff): About 30% reporting in Boston and things remain tight in the race to be the city's new mayor. Walsh leads Connolly 50.50-49.50.
6:06 PM PT (Darth Jeff): 9 out of 614 precincts reporting in Detroit's mayor race and Mike Duggan has a 51-49 lead over Benny Napoleon. If Duggan wins he'll be the city's first white mayor since 1974.
6:07 PM PT (Darth Jeff): 54% reporting in Charlotte and things have tightened up. Democrat Cannon leads Republican Peacock only 51-49.
6:07 PM PT: With 80% now reporting at the VA SBOE, Cuccinelli (R) is up less than 1% on McAuliffe (D). It looks like NoVA will pull this one out for McAuliffe.
6:09 PM PT (Darth Jeff): 83% reporting in Greensboro and it looks like we have another pickup. Dem Vaughan leads incumbent Republican Perkins 59-41 in the mayoral race.
6:12 PM PT (Darth Jeff): 47% reporting in Boston and Wash narrowly leads 52-48. This one could come down to the wire.
6:12 PM PT: There are also notable county executive races in two big suburban NYC counties, Nassau and Westchester, where Dems are hoping to make gains. No votes reported yet in either, though.
6:13 PM PT (Steve Singiser): In the Virginia legislative races, the Democrats are still looking at a net pickup of 3 seats. They still lead in HD-32 (Greason), HD-86 (Rust), HD-93 (Watson), and HD-94 (Yancey). Two of those four were Daily Kos endorsed candidates: Jennifer Boysko in HD-86 and Rob Farinholt in HD-94. The other three endorsed candidates are within striking distance, with substantial votes to be counted.
6:13 PM PT (Darth Jeff): In Detroit 8% is reporting and Napoleon leads by eight votes. A lot left but this is far closer than the polls led us to believe it would be.
6:14 PM PT: Now AL-01 is looking interesting. Tea partier Dean Young up 52-48 over establishment guy Bradley Byrne w/31% reporting.
6:15 PM PT (Laura Clawson): The liveblog continues here.
