McConnell must think it's totally normal to obsess over paying women less than men

Senate Minority Mitch McConnell dismisses Democratic concerns about women getting equal pay for equal work as a "bizarre obsession":

"Instead of focusing on jobs, [Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid] launched into another confusing attack on the left's latest bizarre obsession," the Republican leader said on the Senate floor.

According to Mitch, the only reason Democrats scheduled a vote on legislation guaranteeing equal pay for equal work is "so they could blow a few kisses to their powerful pals on the left."

I cannot imagine why McConnell thought delivering a strange rant like that was a good idea, but if his goal is to help give the Democrats a shot not just at holding onto the senate but capturing his seat, he's doing a damn fine job. The latest evidence: A new Public Policy Polling survey showing McConnell's Democratic opponent Allison Lundergan Grimes holding a slim lead in November's election by a 45-44 margin.

According to the same poll, a majority of Kentucky voters think their state was right to accept expanded Medicaid funding, and a plurality said they would be more likely to vote for Grimes and against McConnell over the issue. Nonetheless, McConnell remains committed to repealing Obamacare—including its Medicaid expansion. Talk about a bizarre obsession.

Wed Apr 09, 2014 at  4:51 PM PT: Correction: It turns out this story was wrong. McConnell was talking about the Koch brothers, not pay equity. Unfortunately, McConnell is still opposed to pay equity legislation, however.
