I rarely check out Redstate, but after the Cochran/McDaniels election wanted to see how the tea party supporters there were reacting. Erick Erickson has put up an interesting piece, "The Marionettes Remain Uncut". In his conclusion he offers, in two sentences, one of the best summaries of the GOP establishment in 2014 that I've seen:
I’m just not sure what the Republican Party really stands for any more other than telling Obama no and telling our own corporate interests yes. That’s not much of a platform.
This spot-on assessment, from a conservative opinion leader no less, should be shared far and wide.
Erickson's piece also takes up the growing disconnect between the GOP establishment and the moneyed interests to which it is beholden, and its base activists. His comments should sound familiar with progressives upset with corporate-dominated Democratic leadership, and I imagine many Tea Party Republicans today feel much like progressives did when Lieberman beat Lamont in the general elections on a combination of establishment Dems and crossover GOPers.
So while I can hardly believe I'm saying it, folks should give Erick Erickson a read today. After all, even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.
8:37 AM PT: Wow - Rec List? Thanks and thanks for the great comments. Getting rec'd for something Erick Erickson says does feel a little unclean but so be it ;-). And a hat tip to TX Freethinker who pointed out this same Erickson commentary in the open thread last night: www.dailykos.com/comments/1309321/53770245
