Last night at about this time, I was at a Halloween party. Today, everyone who was at that party is now very sick. Dog sick. You know a miserable dog, the way they slouch, hang their heads, and give you big watery eyes? That's me.
I think it was the little smoked cocktail sausages. Bleh. I will never be interested in a little wienie again. But I digress.
I felt a little lightheaded and achy this morning, ate a small breakfast, took my supplements and some EC aspirin, watched TV. Felt worse, so went back to bed. Couldn't get any rest, couldn't stop shivering, even with cats covering me. About an hour or two later, I barfed the wienies from last night. Then I felt marginally better. So I thought it was the food. Maybe it was the aspirin. I stopped shivering and was able to rest, although I don't think I fell asleep. I was just too achy.
Well, now as I sit here I am once again shivering like a... shivery shiverer. Never fear, I am pushing fluids like a... fluid pusher. Slightly dehydrated brain; the similes are the first to go. I am leaving in a few minutes to go to the UTC and try to score some good drugs to settle my GI tract and knock me out for about 24 hours.
So I have a big favor to ask my fellow Kossacks. My business partner and I were going to volunteer for a variety of GOTV activities for 8 hours a day every day including Tuesday. Now with only 3 days left, it looks like we will not be able to do that. Fortunately, sort of, the others at the party were friends and neighbors, not other volunteers.
But oh, to volunteer for over a month, only to be sidelined the final three days! I want to scream and tear my hair out. Instead, I decided to write a diary. More below the wavering orange squiggle.
Once back from the doctor, we need to go to bed and stay there. If it is food poisoning, we may be ready to roll Monday, depending on severity. If it is a virus (and don't worry, there's no five-letter E-virus in Kentucky as far as I know), it's probably the flu. If so, with only 3 days left, we are probably done.
I will try to come back here and post updates on the diary, but for now I can't sit here long enough to do comments. So here's the favor: Could y'all talk to each other in the comments below and see if you can arrange to volunteer some more for the GOTV effort? If 8 people signed up for 2 hours per day, then that would make up for the 2 of us no longer able to work 8 hours per day each. I've been working to defeat Mitch McConnell, but of course feel free to work for whoever you like.
If you're not motivated either to vote or volunteer, then please go to my diary page and consider reading any of my previous diaries on the subject of voting. That page is here, http://www.dailykos.com/.... I also have made a zillion comments on the subject that I think is a searchable database. I just can't sit here and write any more to convince you right now.
So I know it's a lot to ask, but maybe some of you have been thinking about doing something and haven't signed up yet? If you could see your way clear to do so, I would be grateful. Thank you. I hope to see you in a couple of days.
Sun Nov 02, 2014 at 7:41 AM PT: The doctor at the UTC gave me Imodium and Phenergan and told me to double up on my fluids. I was able to sleep a little last night, but had to keep getting up every few hours. At least I've stopped shivering. So I will go back to bed now. Thank you all for your get-well wishes! Yes, I suppose McTurtle could be responsible for bad little wienies.
Mon Nov 03, 2014 at 3:31 PM PT: Feeling much better, although kind of wrung out. Still kind of lightheaded. Hungry today, have been able to eat small meals without a problem. So going to spend most of my time in bed with short periods upright, will -- of course! -- vote tomorrow, but leave the rest in your capable hands and those of our fellow Democrats, progressives, and independents.
Wed Nov 05, 2014 at 6:26 AM PT: Everyone at the party was pretty well recovered by yesterday so we all went out and voted, although I didn't feel 100% so didn't try to drive people to the polls, but apparently it wasn't needed anyway. Today, of course, I'm heartbroken with the Senate turning red, and didn't dare try alcohol to drown my sorrows while the returns came in last night. Ah well. We live to fight another day.
