Our President has once again made history.
Our President has once again strengthened our country.
When you hear of controversy and criticism, please keep in mind what I am about to share with you.
I'm writing these words from El Paso, where we have something to say on the subject.
El Paso ranked safest large city in U.S. for 3rd straight year

El Paso has been named the "safest large city" in the nation for the third time, according to rankings by a research publishing firm.
Officials credited law enforcement and residents working together in making El Paso the city with the "lowest crime rate ranking" of cities more than 500,000 population in the annual City Crime Rankings by CQ Press.
...
El Paso has been in the top three large cities with the lowest crime rates since 1997.
Combine those facts with what you see on the other side of the orange border fence:

The greater El Paso Region is positioned in [western] Texas and South-Central New Mexico on the U.S./Mexican border. The region is a blend of urban, suburban, rural, and undeveloped sectors, encompassing an estimated population of 2.5 million. El Paso is the largest metro area on the U.S./Mexican border and the region constitutes the largest bi-national metropolitan area in the Western Hemisphere with 80.3% of its population being Hispanic. This geographic location makes the El Paso area unique. It is the nation’s only bilingual and bicultural metropolitan area where fluency in English and Spanish is needed in many customer service and management occupations and desired in others.
...the North American Borderplex population of over 2.5 million. Over 1.1 million of these people reside on the US side of the border in El Paso [TX], Dona Ana[NM], and Otero[NM] Counties.
El Paso, Texas, is the 19th-largest city in the U.S. with a city population of 672,538.
As a further BTW, and as my differentiator from Sarah Palin, as I type these words I am looking out a window thru which I can see 3 states in 2 countries: Chihuahua, New Mexico, and Texas. Despite those man-made borders, we all share the same water, air, and sunlight.
Here's a view we can all share:
And, in case my larger point is not clear from all of the above: We'd all be wise to grow up and realize a fundamental truth -- we all share ONE earth -- and adjust our behavior accordingly.
9:33 PM PT: Muchas Gracias, y'all -- thanks for putting this news from America's National Sacrifice Zone on the dKos RecList Radar!!!!!!!
The violence across the border has dramatically subsided in the past 3 years. The pollution is still coming from many of the sources I described 6 years ago (and quoted today), but we are making progress on most local fronts, while facing major setbacks from global environmental degradation beyond our control.
On 2 issues of national import that got much needed attention this week -- Immigration & Pollution/Climate -- the news from El Paso is clear: The folks are indeed peaceful here, but we do need help fighting the toxins.
And to you DREAMers who get to achieve your dreams -- remember to come back to The Pass someday and give a hand in creating a better future ;)
