Local officials brief press following shootings at two military facilities in Chattanooga, TN.
Five people are dead and three wounded in two different
shootings at military facilities in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The dead include the shooter and the wounded a police officer.
Multiple law enforcement sources said the shooter was deceased after the attacks at a Navy recruiting building and a Marine Reserve Center.
The wounded officer was in surgery and was expected to be OK.
At a news conference, Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke called it a "horrific" situation.
Much of the surrounding area was placed on lockdown, including Chattanooga State Community College.
Around 1:30 p.m Thursday afternoon, Chattanooga police said the active shooting that apparently took place at two military facilities was over.
President Obama has been briefed on the shooting and will continue to get updates as the investigation continues.
1:25 PM PT: The gunman has been identified as Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez, a naturalized citizen from Kuwait. Additionally, officials say they are investigating the killings as domestic terrorism.
