The Senate finally voted on final passage of the short term funding bill to end this iteration of the Trump Shutdown, passing it 81-18. We’ll probably get another one in three weeks, when Mitch McConnell, the White House, and Speaker Paul Ryan all refuse any compromise on anything related to immigration, but here we are.
As a quick refresher, here’s what’s in the bill. It’s the same one the House sent over last week, but ends February 8, an earlier deadline.
Here’s what’s not in it: disaster relief for California and other states that experience devastating wildfires or for Puerto Rico, Florida, and Texas still recovering from the Hurricanes. It also doesn’t include funding for community health centers, which expired along with CHIP funding back in September. That means Republicans are still holding millions and millions of human hostages, in addition to the 122 Dreamers who lose their protected status every day.
That expiration date means that this isn’t over yet. The House will likely vote on it within the next hour or so.
