The NRA has long been one of the most despicable groups in America, and now it’s started attacking the teenage survivors of the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. Even for the NRA, this is a new low.
If we're going to do something about the epidemic of gun violence in this country, we need to crush the NRA and send an unmistakable message to elected officials in both parties: We're tired of the senseless slaughter, and inaction is unacceptable.
Right now, in Illinois, we have our first chance to send that message. Democratic Rep. Dan Lipinski opposed a ban on assault weapons as recently as 2013. Now, under pressure from his Democratic primary opponent, Marie Newman, he's flip-flopped, but he still thinks pushing for a ban would be "counterproductive."
Gun safety isn’t the only reason progressives are organizing against Lipinski—it's just the latest. Over more than a decade in his safely blue seat in Congress, he's amassed one of the worst voting records of any Democrat in Congress. He voted against Obamacare, he’s repeatedly voted to defund Planned Parenthood, and he even he co-chairs the House’s so-called "Pro-Life" Caucus.
Newman is organizing a powerful grassroots campaign that's earned her the support of labor unions like the SEIU, women's groups like NARAL and EMILY's List, LGBT groups like the Human Rights Campaign, and of course Daily Kos. It's a powerhouse list of endorsees ... which Lipinski derisively wrote off as the "tea party of the left."
Please give $5 to help Marie Newman beat Blue Dog Dan Lipinski. The primary is March 20!
