Tech Talk for Kosacks (members of Daily Kos)

- Answered a DK Tech-Talk question this week? Please repeat it in the comments.
- Questions:
- How do you open a link in a new Tab on an Android device (Chrome, ZTE Maven, an Android cell phone)?
- How do you switch Tabs on an Android device (same)?
Tech Talk Part 2: For Nerds Only (Pls Ignore):
Last week I posted a test diary: Test, Pls Ignore. I was testing a geeky-nerdy tech question about a Daily Kos feature. I’ve posted test diaries before and received no to a few responses. I have no idea why people flowed in to this particular diary with funny, but flow they did. Not just with funny but with wit and theories and assumptions. Many people asked me to explain what I was testing. Here:
My Observations: When creating a Daily Kos draft diary, the URL contains a 7-digit number. Every Daily Kos diary, once published, holds a 7-digit number in the URL.
My Question: Is the 7-digit number in the URL of the draft of a diary the same as the 7-digit number in the URL of the diary created from that draft?
The Experiment: I created a draft, recorded the URL, published the diary, and recorded the URL: Results:
- https:\/\/www.dailykos.com/stories/1900281/edit https:\/\/www.dailykos.com/stories/2019/11/18/1900281/-Test-Pls-Ignore
The Answer: Yes!
But wait! It gets better!: In mucking about with URLs to create this nerds-only Tech Talk, I discovered that all we need to do to create a link which opens a future diary is the following:
- Insert the properly formatted date in the correct location in the URL of the draft.
- Replace the word “edit” with a hyphen.
Try it if you dare:
Who Cares? (Why/how could the duplication of the 7-digit number be useful?): An author (whose name does not have to be NotNowNotEver) could post a link to an evening Roundup in the morning Roundup. That link would of course not go live until the evening diary posts. Whether such a link would actually drive traffic to the evening Roundup and be worth the effort is unknowable at this time.
Pls, don’t everybody post a Pls Ignore diary! I don't want to see a flotilla of such flotsam floating down the river of the Recent list. K?

Rounding Down
Thank you for fighting for truth and justice with all us Gnusies! Although 40% of our Readers don’t visit every day, that’s okay, we all do what we can. For about 2-1/2 years, we’ve shared positive news, laughed, organized, resisted, rebelled, revolted without being revolting, relied, rested, mentored, created, crossed rivers, chewed our cud, puffed methane out both ends, and laughed. Here’s looking at you, kid, and standing upwind!
Yikes! I have more Good News to add, but I arrived home at 9:30 p.m. last night to a chilly house and a broken furnace. I can fix the furnace problem, but I need a replacement part that is unavailable on a Saturday night. Overnight temperatures expected to be at freezing. Loving neighbors loaned us a couple of electric fans.
I’ll keep building this diary after it publishes a 7 a.m. ET.
As always, please share more Good News than I can find or provide.
In case you haven’t figured it out yet, this is a group diary.
Power with, not power over ❤️ ✊ ❤️
