This is it, folks. The politicians and the pollsters don’t get to decide on the midterm elections. The voters do. And it’s on us to do all that we can to get out the Democratic vote for the FINAL FOUR DAYS.
As the get-out-the-vote director for the Daily Kos activism team, I have done what I can to help recruit as many folks in our community through our GOTV page. As of Monday, we have recruited 47,812 unique volunteers for letter-writing, postcard writing, phone-banking, text-banking, poll-watching, canvassing, offering rides, and more. Now in these final days, it’s about getting out every last Democratic voter we can.
Not quite sure what is the best use of your time? Here are some ways to plan your next four days:
- Calling Democrats and helping them make a “plan to vote” is essential. Asking them when they plan to vote—and then reminding them on Tuesday—will significantly increase the odds that they will make it to the polls. MoveOn, SwingLeft, and Sister District are all running virtual phone banks, and they need your help. Click here to find a shift that works for your schedule, and sign up!
- Sending out text messages is one of the most popular get-out-the-vote activities at Daily Kos, and many Democratic campaigns provide opportunities. Click here to check out what is available, and sign up for a volunteer shift before Tuesday.
- Early vote numbers are encouraging, but young people under 30 have not turned out yet. I’m not worried, because they are motivated—but they need that last-minute reminder to make it on Tuesday. The best thing you can do to turn out young voters is to volunteer with NextGen America, which is focusing on youth voter turnout. Whether it’s texting, phone-banking, or social media outreach, they need you! NextGen is only one group mobilizing the youth vote. Check out Voters of Tomorrow.
- Knocking on doors to reach voters in these final few days is the most direct way to get out the vote. If you are anxious about canvassing, check out this great post by a Daily Kos community member. Even if you don’t live in a battleground state or district, a lot of groups are organizing bus rides and carpools to take you there for free! Click here to see what opportunities are available, and sign up to for a volunteer shift now.
- The Daily Kos GOTV Page has focused on Battleground States, where you can see what you can do in Wisconsin, Nevada, Georgia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Arizona, and Michigan. There are literally hundreds of Democratic campaigns across the country, however, at the federal, state, and local level that need your help right now. Check out your own backyard, and get plugged in with a get-out-the-vote activity here.

At long last, the 2022 midterms are almost here! With the battle for the House front and center, we give you a window into the key races on a final pre-election episode of The Downballot. We discuss a wide range of contests that will offer insight into how the night is going, including top GOP pickup opportunities, second-tier Republican targets, and the seats where Democrats are on offense. And with many vote tallies likely to stretch on for some time, we also identify several bellwether races in states that count quickly.
