In the news today: Donald Trump loses yet another court decision, this one in New York where a judge ruled that he does indeed have to appear and testify after receiving a subpoena from state Attorney General Letitia James. James is investigating alleged financial wrongdoing by the Trump Organization. A phalanx of the usual Senate Republicans tried their best to derail the confirmation hearing of Innocence Project attorney Nina Morrison, and most of the criticism was built around loud Republican rejections of the very premise that Americans are sometimes wrongly convicted in our courtrooms. (They're not actually that naive, mind you, but the ones with presidential ambitions know that the base loves it when they pretend to be.) And as we wait to see whether a new European war will spark into being, the answer likely hinges on whether Russian strongman Vladimir Putin can invent a face-saving way out of a no-win situation he may have accidentally bumbled into.
