Hello, Peeps. Today I have a few ideas for woozle toys that are cheap and easy to make at home. Some of them will help keep your pooches occupied while you’re out of the house. Others can help him burn off some steam. But first,
You know how this works, but as always, a gentle reminder:
- No trolling the diary.
- If you hate pootie diaries, leave now. No harm, no foul.
- Share any and all pootie/woozle photos or issues that you would like .
- When it comes to problems, we may just have someone with experience who can help.
- Whatever happens in the outer blog STAYS in the outer blog. This is a place to relax and play; please treat it accordingly.
- There is no such thing as stealing a photo around here, but if you would like a pic from the comment threads, please ask the poster. He/she may have a copyright to those pics. Many thanks!
- It should not need to be said, but ANY/ALL photos that imply or encourage human violence against an animal will be considered verboten! Whether it is “comedic” or not, it will be frowned upon and considered out of bounds.
My family used to make toys similar to this first one with nothing more than a bunch of worn out socks. The best part is you don’t even need to wash them first. The smellier the better. We’d just fold one in half top to toe and stuff it into another sock. Knot the outer sock. Stuff those two socks into a third. Knot that one. Repeat until you have a big, cushiony toy. We learned this from my uncle. This technique made his Saint Bernard Reefer’s favorite toy.
Got old sweatshirts, towels, anything? Make a rag tug! Anything to keep from throwing them away just because they have a rip or a stain. Just cut or tear them into strips and knot or braid them into an appropriately sized toy. There is no wrong way to do this.
This agility jump is just a PVC components that are available in any hardware or home improvement store. I’ve worked with PVC pipe before myself. It’s easy to work with.
This next one is as easy as can be—just cut open a tennis ball and fill it with treats.
The toy below is simply a piece of PVC pipe and two end caps. You will need a drill to make this one, however. A vice grip will also be handy but it’s not really necessary. Just make sure the holes you drill in it are the right size for your treats.
Here’s another tennis ball game for your dog. Just place some treats in the tin and cover them with tennis balls. Be sure you leave some cups empty, however. You can make it even more difficult by placing only half a tennis ball over the treats.
This next one is a simpler version of the above pastime. All you need is some old toilet paper rolls and a large, flat bottomed container. Any small tub will do. Just fill the rolls with treats and let your woozle figure it out.
If you have access to a sewing machine it’s easy to make a blanket for your woozle or pootie. Cut up some old tees, piece them together and sew. Back them with a piece of old blanket or fleece.
