I am a long time reader and a bit of a commenter but more of a voter on diaries. So please excuse any errors. Never have I written for anyone other than a teacher to read and that was 50 years ago. However, now I see that the Substantive Due Process Rights found in the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments do not seem to be followed by our current Supreme Court. I saw this in this article from Raw Story: www.rawstory.com/...
The right to gay marriage, contraception/birth control, and interracial marriage are all endangered as is freedom from forced sterilizations of prisoners and the mentally impaired by the wording of the leaked Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization written two years ago by Judge Alito. In an article in Prism from 5/05/2022 Noreen Farrell, a gender justice expert and the executive director of Equal Rights Advocates explains why she believes this is true. Here is a link to that article in Prism from 5/05/2022. prismreports.org/… The two articles provide some of the same information, but from a point of view in 2022 and now in 2024.
I’m just a regular woman who is now a grandma to three girls/young women who I want to see receive the same opportunities and freedoms that I did. I’m sorry I did not give my own interpretation of what I have read as many of you smarter authors do. While I nursed my husband through cancer and a stroke, and then burying him, I got out of the habit of doing “serious” reading. I guess I was looking for distractions from my life and never got back into the habit heavily until 2020.
So, I just wanted to share this perspective of where our country is going in the future and hope some smarter, younger and more physically capable can take up this torch on this matter.
