It’s time to turn a red state blue.

Kansas has been the subject of any number of treatises on why its citizens seem to vote against their own best interests, chief among them being What's the Matter With Kansas?

It may surprise many to find out there is an active Democratic party in Kansas, and that there has been for a long time. Kathleen Sebelius is the best-known of our number.

Today, the Kansas Board of Objections entertained birtherism.

A trio of Republicans, as set forth by Kansas law and led by Secretary of State Kris Kobach, decided that they didn't have enough information to decide that President Barack Obama was a legal candidate.

Three of the state's top elected officials Thursday determined they lacked evidence of President Barack Obama's birth records to decide whether to remove the Democratic nominee from the November ballot in Kansas.

Sunday evening, I attended the annual picnic for our county Democratic party. It is the first time I have attended. While we ate dinner, the chair of the state party spoke to us and talked about the issues associated with the new ID requirements for voting in Kansas, among other things. After she finished, I made it a point to talk to her about reaching out to a small group who can help us reach a much larger group.

Share whatever you need to share. We can't solve each other's problems, but we can be a sounding board and a place of connection.

We lost both of my husband's parents in the month of September. He was an only child, so it was the two of us left to deal with everything. But, I'm getting ahead of myself.

I work in healthcare. I do finance IT for a hospital. A major part of my job is assuring that we're not performing procedures on people who do not meet criteria for medical necessity. This isn't about my job.

This is about four friends of mine who need single-payer health insurance.

I've always had an affinity for music. My mother jokes that I was singing along with the gospel music on the radio on the way to church almost as soon as I could talk.

I've also always had an affinity for politics. I never really understood where it came from, as I didn't see either of my parents as political, until this spring.
