That's right folks! It's OFFICIAL now. Thanks to the hard work of OFA_FL, the good citizens of Florida who exercised their right to vote, and who sacrificed long, long hours, sometimes upwards of 8-9 hours in line to see Democracy in action.

AP RACE CALL: Obama wins Florida, topping Romney in final electoral vote tally 332 to 206.

I've heard anecdotal reports that all over the state of Florida today, OFA folks are celebrating this win with parties, barbecues, etc.  We congratulate them on a job well done!!  A big thank you also goes out to DNC Chair and Floridian herself, Debbie-Wasserman Schultz.

A breaking news report from NBC:

The FBI and U.S. Postal Service agents are investigating bogus official-looking letters sent to voters in at least 28 Florida counties questioning their citizenship and their eligibility to vote,  NBC News has learned.

Want to bet that this is yet another GOP attempt at voter suppression?

It's not clear who sent the letters, which were machine postmarked in Seattle. Couvertier said the FBI in Tampa is working with its Seattle office to track down the perpetrator. Cate said a "significant majority have gone to Republican voters, but not exclusively. We've got Democrats who received the letters, we've got independents. We're telling everybody to be on the lookout."
And even though it was stated that a significant majority of those letters have gone to Republican voters, this may be just a decoy with Independents and Democrats being the true targets.

Chuck Todd is becoming more and more unhinged it appears as the election is drawing near. Right now he's not even pretending to be an "objective" reporter anymore. He would fit in quite well the fools at FOX NEWS.

Apart from his usual nonsense he has been peddling for the last 6 weeks about "enthusiasm gap", and his playing around with that silly "Magic Map" giving Romney NC, FL and VA with no credible basis for doing so, he takes it a step further and tries to equate legitimate concerns about possible vote machine tampering in Ohio with birtherism!!!

Here's what he tweeted:

The voting machine conspiracies belong in same category as the Trump birther garbage.

Really Chuck? If I recall correctly, the MSM (including the likes of Todd and his colleagues in the different cable networks) gave these birthers including Donald Trump a platform to spew their garbage and made it a legitimate topic, so much so that our President had to release his long form B.C. - something that no other President had to do.

I was heartened to see that Mr. Todd not only got push back from ordinary folks on Twitter, but he got called out by some of his colleagues and former colleagues on MSNBC.

From Keith Olberman:

Chuck!Your network EMPLOYS Trump, gives platform!

From Joy Ann Reid:

I respectfully disagree w/ my colleague @chucktodd on this. People not trusting the outcome of elections not= 2 birtherism

I'm hoping that Lawrence, Rev Al or Martin Bashir calls him out on this as well.

Is Chuck Todd out of line on this issue?

Anyone who has friends, family - please send them gentle reminders to get to the polls early. Lines are already forming and the excitement is palpable from the reports I'm reading so far. Enthusiasm gap? Not in North Carolina!

A crowd estimated at more than 150 people stood in line Thursday morning outside the Hal Marshall Annex on the north side of Charlotte’s uptown, waiting to participate in the start of North Carolina’s early voting period.

About 350 sites across the state feature early voting until Nov. 3, and the Hal Marshall Annex was the first to open in Mecklenburg County, at 8 a.m.

Read more here:

And folks are tweeting their experiences from other parts of NC too:

Line around the corner here in downtown Raleigh. #myvotewillbeininlike10minutes

And according to local ABC news reports:

State elections director Gary Bartlett said he believes the in-person early vote will meet or exceed 2008 totals. Bitzer predicts two-thirds of the ballots could be cast before Election Day. There are now nearly 6.6 million registered voters, 300,000 more compared to November 2008.

"There are going to be long lines at early voting sites and long lines on Election Day," he said.

As we know, heavier turnout is almost always good news for DEMS, so we are cautiously optimistic for now. You can get more information about early voting in NC here:

Tonight: All Hands on Deck

by Hopefruit2

As noted in this liberal publication from PoliticsUSA:

Wondering what your President is going to do tonight that’s different from what you saw in the first debate? Not only is President Obama ready for The Other Mitt this time, but his team is in place to do real time fact-checking and post debate commentary. The Obama campaign is going to control the messaging better this time around.
That's right folks. Team Obama, along with some prominent Democrats will be bringing it's A-game tonight.  Their goal is to articulate the President's excellent record, and his vision going forward for this country, expose Mitt Romney as the callous and clueless charlatan that he is, drown out his overpaid corporate media surrogates posing as pundits, and once and for all settle the question of who America not only wants but NEEDS at the helm for the next four years.

Let's join Team Obama in boosting our candidate and not enabling flawed media-driven narratives to take hold. Tonight is not the time for hand-wringing, or Tuesday night quarterbacking from the comfort of your home office, livingroom or basement.

As the article states (and as we know):

Obama will come prepared tonight, but he will also be who he is. Obama doesn’t do rude, belligerent wannabe gladiator at the Colosseum going for the kill instead of the win. Obama’s ego is not that hungry or crude. This is what makes him the kind of diplomat that can get things done, like the tough sanctions on Iran that are strangling its economy. Real strength doesn’t make a braying, Bushian spectacle of itself.
Here are the individuals from the formidable Democratic Team who will be on Twitter tonight correcting Mitt's lies in real time, and setting the record straight:
David Axelrod, Obama for America Senior Strategist
Rep. Karen Bass (D, CA-33)
Rep. Xavier Becerra (D, CA-31)
Stephanie Cutter, Obama for America Deputy Campaign Manager
Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), OFA national campaign co-chair
Patrick Gaspard, DNC Executive Director
Robert Gibbs, Obama for America Senior Advisor
Senator John Kerry (D-MA)
Jim Messina, Obama for America Campaign Manager
Governor Martin O’Malley (D-MD), Chair of the Democratic Governors Association
Governor Deval Patrick (D-MA), OFA national campaign co-chair
David Plouffe, 2008 Obama for America Campaign Manager
Jen Psaki, Obama for America Traveling Press Secretary
Mayor Kasim Reed, Mayor of Atlanta
Cecilia Rouse, Princeton University Economist
Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY)
Governor Ted Strickland, former Ohio governor and OFA national campaign co-chair
Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D, MD-8)
Rep. Nydia Velazquez (D, NY-12)
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Mayor of Los Angeles and OFA national campaign co-chair
DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D, FL-20)

And as we know, our good VP Biden will be on THREE networks tomorrow morning to reinforce the narrrative that Team Obama and the Democrats set this evening. If you have a Twitter account, you can also follow OFA's real-time fact-checking at  @OFAdebates

On Saturday Oct 6, a brief diary was posted about Paul Ryan mailing out copies of the President's birth certificate, ostensibly to settle questions asked by skeptical Republicans about the President's place of birth.

As could be expected, reactions among Kossacks to this diary were mixed, with some people commending Ryan for showing some integrity, others being "meh" and a third group showing high skepticism of Ryan's motives for doing so.  At the time I was in the 3rd camp of skeptical folks, and I even voiced my speculations in this comment:

No he did it because of the DVD (2+ / 0-)
that the GOP has mailed to white swing state voters alleging that PBO was born in America to a different father (Frank Marshall) than the Kenyan Barack Obama Sr.

That doesn't jibe with the birther argument, so Ryan has to first set them straight on that issue.

Short and sweet. PBO has been endorsed recently by the Philadelphia Inquirer, Pennsylvania's largest daily newspaper, AND the Winston-Salem Journal of North Carolina.  What makes this even more interesting is that Winston-Salem endorsed John McCain in 2008!

According to the Winston-Salem editorial:

Four years ago on this page, we endorsed Republican U.S. Sen. John McCain of Arizona over Obama. We wrote that we were impressed with Obama, but McCain would “bring the Iraq war to a successful conclusion, work to end American dependence on foreign oil, reduce America's output of climate-changing gases and begin the rebuilding of our economy.”

The Democratic president has done all those things and more. He is calm under pressure and courageous in standing up for the rights of all Americans, including the poor, veterans, the elderly, women, gays and immigrants. In contrast, we’ve sometimes found it hard in the last few weeks to tell just what Obama’s challenger, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, really stands for.

According to Wikipedia:

The Winston-Salem Journal is a daily newspaper primarily serving the city of Winston-Salem, North Carolina and its county, Forsyth County, North Carolina. It also features coverage of Northwestern North Carolina and circulates as far west as Tennessee and north to Virginia.
The last time the Journal endorsed a Democratic  party candidate for President was in 1964 (Lyndon Johnson).

Both endorsements come with substantive descriptions of our President's solid record over the past 3.5 years, as well as stark contrasts between the fundamentally different visions that the two candidates have for this country.

In addition, the Philadelphia Inquirer which endorsed then Senator Obama in 2008, wastes no time in calling out the extreme and unprecedented Republican obstructionism that the MSM has simply refused to address.

The recovery is slow, but its speed has been hampered by obstinate Republicans in Congress dead set on opposing any program that might boost Obama's reelection. They say they can't be blamed for Obama's lack of success earlier in his administration, when Democrats held the House and Senate. But Americans need to remember that Congress' rules give great power to the minority party to thwart legislation.

This MUST-SEE excerpt is taken from last night's special Friday edition of "The Last Word", during the rewrite segment. The video speaks for itself, but I thought I would highlight in this diary some key points that I believe that every Obama supporter (and every voter) ought to understand.

This also is an indictment of the MSM, which has played into the superficial narrative of the "best" performer as an important or sole criterion for determining who gets to be in the Oval Office making critical decisions that impacts our lives, our children's lives, as well as the global and domestic integrity of this country.

This segment is a little under 9 minutes long, and Lawrence first begins with an excerpt from the "West Wing" (NBC) to build up to his point. To get to the main part of the segment, you can fast-forward to ~ 3:10. But I just wanted to emphasize some of O'Donnell's primary take-home points for those of us who have been tempted to buy in to the media narrative of who won/who lost the first Presidential debate.

These debates are about finding the best president, not the best memorizer. If it's a memorizer you want, then Kevin Klein or any other American-born actor who has learned all 1,495 lines of Hamlet, the biggest part Shakespeare ever wrote deserves your vote.
In most presidencies, there will not be one instance-not one in four years in office, where a president has to think on his feet in the instant about a policy decision, nor would you want him to. You want a president to carefully consider every governing decision, to take as much time as it takes to make the best decision; to give more thought to, to seek on advice on things.

We don't televise  oval office meetings or any of the other real business of governing, and so the public and news media for the most part have no real idea of how governing is done and who does it well. Then, that same news media presents presidential debates and instantly tells us who won and who lost in a contest that is ALWAYS judged more on style than on substance. Post-debate pundit analysis always rewards wit as if it's a presidential job requirement, but wit has no value in the Situation Room. Who do you want in the Situation Room - the funniest guy? The best memorizer? Or the most thoughtful and careful and deliberative decision maker?
That post-debate analysis all too often loses sight of the most important fact that debate audiences should remember: We are not electing a Debater-in-chief, we are electing a Commander-in-Chief.

With the help of an earth-shattering support from 1.8 million donors!

This tops his all time fundraising high of $150M in September 2008. So while the media is wasting time trying to prop up their failing candidate Romney, President Obama supporters are out there canvassing, knocking on doors, phonebanking and fundraising - and donating.

Some amazing news this morning: 1,825,813 people came together to raise $181 million for this campaign in September.
And here's more from @BarackObama
If you gave $5, it helped. 98% of September's contributions were $250 or less, with an average contribution of $53.
You can check out the graphic associated with this tweet here:

We can win this folks! Yes we can.

And there you have it folks. For more than two months, Mitt Romney has been prepping, cramming, rehearsing, practicing, drilling, whatever you want to call it, for his magnum opus; his grand finale...his aria...which is what we saw last night.

Meanwhile, President Obama has been going around, talking to the American people, building his coalition of volunteers, phone-bankers, canvassers, fundraisers, releasing strategic campaign ads both on TV and on the Internet, and building a solid lead in the likely voter polls, as much as 5-7pts nationally, and up to double digits in key battleground states.

So it boggles my mind when people seem to be derailed by a 90-minute, overly scripted, poorly moderated "debate" which was not really a debate because one side was all LIES  (You can't really debate a liar). So the media (quite predictably) has decided that Romney won and Obama lost. Okay then. Let's just review some ways in which the MSM has shown themselves to be an "authority" in anything Obama-related. Follow me below the squiggly.

Born in 1906, centenarian Margaret Harris cast her first vote in 1928.  Eighty-four years later, she plans to vote for President Obama. In her own words:

"Being honest is the most important thing - treating everybody right. Barack Obama is honest, and I love him for it. I appreciate him. I know he's looking out for me."

I say take advice from a wise elder, who's been there, seen it all, done it all. If she can find the energy and will to vote, so can I.

Perfect web ad from OFA!  Of course, this ad details all the offshore accounts and foreign investment, but most importantly, it highlights the very essential question of why has Romney only released two years of returns - failing to match the precedent set by the last 4 winning Presidential candidates AND his own father George Romney, all of whom released at least 10 years of returns.

Some MSM hacks (including POLITICO) would like us to believe that Romney has done all that was expected of him and the case is closed, or that Democrats are being unreasonable by continuing to prod him for a complete release of his RAW returns prior to 2010 and not some BS summary letter.

Well, this ad is here to let them know: NOT THIS TIME!  Enjoy.
