There is a gaelic saying; A friend’s eye is a good mirror. If you ask a true friend, “Do these jeans make me look fat” and the jeans do, a true friend will tell you “let’s find a pair that works for you”.
I completely disagree with those that say Yesterday’s mob action was a a dark day for America. I think it was a fantastic scene. Thanks to social media and cameramen on the scene, that mob action was broadcast for all of the world to see, but especially to Americans who normally don’t pay attention to politics. For those people got to see yesterday what it is like for minorities to live in this country on a daily basis since the founding of this country.
Violent mob actions (I’m not talking about the crime syndicates) have defined America. When Black Americans got elected to North Carolina offices in the late 1800’s, Mobs killed them and ran the rest out of town. 1921 Tulsa, OK , saw the destruction of “Black Wall street”, Mormons in Nauvoo, Illinois, 1839, they were again forced to leave after conflicts with locals culminated in the 1844 deaths of Joseph Smith and Patriarch Hyrum Smith by a mob of Illinois militia.
Sometimes the mob actions are done by the Govt itself; The trail of Tears was a govt sanctioned event after mob actions made it possible to relocate them. Japanese internment camps in 1940’s, Voter suppression & intimidation tactics as well as every Jim Crowe law. The Ludlow Massacre & Battle of Blair Mountain under the guise of Union busting, Families living in fear of gang violence, live in fear of mob violence because gang violence is mob violence.
So yesterday didn’t just happen, it’s been century’s in the making but specifically advanced by all the enablers of tRump. Yesterday culminated in the desecration and destruction of the Capitol building along with the Ideals of the building represents, 4 deaths in the Capitol, numerous injuries of Federal Police and the placement of IEDs. Sen McConnell traded all that for Federal judges and tax cuts for the rich, most of the republican Senate did the same trade. Sen Ted Cruz & Sen Josh Hawley traded for fund raising emails and the hope that they can get their 2024 party nomination for President and the cash that goes along with the respective efforts. The House Sedition caucus traded for fundraising emails. Do not tell me it isn’t fantastic to see the hypocrisy of political “Leaders” exposed so blatantly and to see them trade for such small sums.
Hopefully yesterday’s event will be used to open the eyes of Americans who normally don’t look at these things and don’t have to worry about these things. Hopefully it’ll change journalism and political coverage for the better. Yesterday’s actions just prove who we as a country have been, are currently and have among us. It’ll take a lot of friend’s eyes to reflect the truth back to America but without knowing the truth of exactly who we are, we’ll never become who we can and should be.
