Can you imagine having to speak after Michelle the other night? After Bill Clinton last night? After President Obama tonight? I don’t envy Hillary at all… but last night’s The Daily Show gives me hope for her.
I was so excited when I heard that Trevor Noah had been tapped to fill John Stewart’s HUUUUUUGE shoes when he retired. I knew Trevor from having lived 8 years in southern Africa — I loved watching him on my favorite soap opera ever, Isidingo (never missed it — a microcosm of the new South Africa, and great story lines) and later listening to him on YFM — and I knew there was genius there. But sadly, he got off to a rough start at TDS — seriously, who wouldn’t in that situation?
I live overseas, without cable, in an almost opposite time zone, so TDS isn’t a nightly watch for me anymore. But I’m so glad I got to watch this clip tonight. This is TDS at it’s best, and Trevor blows it out of the water!
This one is not to be missed…
You know, the fact that you can interchange a Donald Trump quote with a drunk bus driver, should make Americans very afraid. “(slurring his words) You always have to be prepared to walk. We may have to walk folks. We may have to walk.”
The entire clip is great, in the truest tradition of the Daily Show.
But for me, it was the last minute (starting at 7:20) that should be played on a continuous loop from now to November, on Comedy Central and every other channel…

...with Hillary Clinton — WORST case scenario — you have a bad President for four years, alright? And, America’s had bad Presidents before. You’ll get through it.
But America, you have never had a Donald Trump before. A man who, claiming to be the leader of law and order and ‘make America safe’ candidate, that man who invites foreign hackers to steal files that he, himself, said contain American national security data, that man? That’s a leader you’ve never had. A man who publicly admires, and now possibly colludes with Vladimir Putin. A man who is lovingly endorsed by Kim Jung Un. A man who praises, and doubles down on praising Sadam Hussein. These are his role models.
And these people, what you have to understand is… once they’re in power, they don’t go away. You don’t get a chance to vote them out in four years. Their rule ends when the country ends.
So to all the people out there considering voting for Trump — I hope you enjoy your vote, because on days like this you realize…
… this could be the very last vote you will ever get.
Like me, Trevor had a front row seat to the Robert Mugabe show. Daniel Arap Moi, Mobutu Sese Seiko, Johnny Taylor, Muomar Khaddafi and dozens more. He gets it, and tonight he showed why he was picked in the first place.

I think it important to remember… as a species we have adapted and evolved to use humor as a mechanism for ensuring an egalitarian society. Thanks Trevor Noah, Stephen Colbert, Larry Willmore, Samantha Bee, Jamie Oliver, and of course the master John Stewart and all the others throughout time, for reminding us how it’s done!
Our job is to take our work VERY seriously, but to remember to take ourselves just a bit more lightly! In spite of the satire, Trevor’s point and mine — this is the fight of a lifetime! Time to get serious and leave it all on the field!!!!!!!!!!! Get smart, get tough, and leave the infighting and oversensitivity to the other guys because that’s their schtick — we’re #StrongerTogether because #LovetrumpsHate! Play nice!
