KOS - I think this is important for the homepage, but that could just me overreacting...
Here's an excerpt from Meet the Press yesterday, with a roundtable discussion featuring Ronald Brownstein, LA Times; David Broder, Washington Post; Chuck Todd, National Journal's Hotline; and Roger Simon, US News and World Report.
I was more than shocked when I heard them say this on the air...then I got the transcript...LORD!
I wish I was technical enough to know how to do the block quoting for this transcript...
MR. RUSSERT: David Broder, to that point, John Zogby, in his analysis of the polls this morning said that "Look at the parking lot of the Iowa caucuses and if you see Volvos and people getting out of them with sandals, it's a good night for Howard Dean. If you see Ford Crown Victorias and people wearing wing-tips, it's Dick Gephardt." Young voters overwhelmingly for Howard Dean. voters over 60 in Iowa, they're still attached to Dick Gephardt.
MR. BRODER: I saw the same kind of contrast when I was out there earlier this week. Gephardt gave a pep talk to about 175 union business agents and staff people who'd come in from around the country. I'd say it was about 98 percent male and the median size of these guys, about 6'3", 250 pounds. Then I went over to...
MR. RUSSERT: My kind of guy.
MR. BRODER: Then I went over to the Dean headquarters, they're young, they're female, they're gay, and they're small. And I thought to myself, I hope those Gephardt guys don't run into the Dean people. You know it would be a bad scene.
MR. TODD: You know, it'll be interesting at the caucuses, on caucus night, if there is some physical intimidation, or not, I mean...
MR. RUSSERT: Punch everybody out.
Mr. TODD: Yeah.
MR. BROWNSTEIN: I wanted to add a shirt size cross tab to our poll after experiencing the same thing. I think we'd find a pretty clear division.
MR. RUSSERT: Double XL.
MR. BROWNSTEIN: Yeah, absolutely.
MR. SIMON: What you're really going to see in the parking lots, though, is buses rented by the Dean campaign to get people to the polls. I mean, the whole story in Iowa is turnout. People have to come out at the same hour of the night, not vote throughout the day and cast a secret ballot. They have to come out at 6:30 at night, the average temperature is 25 degrees, historically. They have to stand around for three hours and argue with people before they can cast a vote. Will older voters do that? They've done it for years; they're more experienced. Or will younger voters who are maybe more mobile do it, but on the other hand, they haven't had experience of doing it before.
Now first of all -- I work with people in the Iowa Offices quite a bit, and let me tell you, all of those things that broder said are untrue and also, the Gephardt headquarters are filled with senior citizens as well, who are not 6'3 and 250lbs.
I think it's blatant stereotyping of gay people and also of union workers.
After Broder says what he 'thinks' the Gephardt people are like, Russert responds 'My kind of guy'. WHAT?!
Then Broder going on to say '..they're young, they're female, they're gay, and they're small.' When did David Broder get good gaydar? How does he know they're not metrosexuals? Why is he stereotyping these folks, does he absolutely know that they're gay?
Then Chuck Todd talking about physical intimidation, like the Dean folks are tepid and weak and the Gephardt folks are monsterous and herculian. C'mon, give me a break...
And here we go again, Russert responds 'Punch everybody out' WHAT? WHAT?
Todd gives him the affirmative 'Yeah'
Then Ronald Brownstein, what is this Queer Eye for the Caucus Guy...says...'I wanted to add a shirt size cross tab to our poll after experiencing the same thing. I think we'd find a pretty clear division.'
Russert again...being manly and masculine..asserting 'Double XL'.
Brownstein, like Todd, gives Russert the affirmative, 'Yeah, absolutely'.
This is beyond the pale, it's pathetic and what it actually does, it telegraphs to people that Dean isn't a real man, he's surrounded by people are who female, young, gay and small. Small people? It's this masculinity thing, plus there are plenty of union guys who are not as big as Broder was saying...
This makes me plain old angry, these whores are starting already, before Dean is even the nominee, before the Caucuses...
