The following is an excerpt from an article "Internet becoming part of SD politics" by Chet Brokaw, Associated Press, that was in the March 27, 2004 Brookings Register.
Being an AP article, this should also be in other newspapers. The article deals with how both the Democratic and Republican campaigns are using the internet to communicate with voters and to raise money.

Herseth campaign spokesman Russ Levsen said the Internet is an effective tool for explaining issues, notifying supporters of
campaign events and collecting donations.
"Our campaign and many others have embraced the Internet as a terrific way to reach out to voters, to supporters, to people who want to find out more about Stephanie," Levsen said.
Herseth's campaign has been particularly active in advertising on Internet sites oriented toward the Democratic party. She raised at least $21,000 in a single day on one site.
Republicans this week criticized Herseth for advertising on
Internet sites tied to liberal groups.
But messages posted on some of those sites indicated many users had decided not to contribute to Herseth's campaign because of the same-sex marriage issue. Herseth last month said she supported President Bush when he called for a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage.
