What is Racism? What is Religion?
The policy of the emperors and the senate, as far as it concerned religion, was happily seconded by the reflections of the enlightened, and by the habits of the superstitious, part of their subjects. The various modes of worship, which prevailed in the Roman world, were all considered by the people, as equally true; by the philosopher, as equally false; and by the magistrate, as equally useful. And thus toleration produced not only mutual indulgence, but even religious concord.

...simply because I don't want to step over dead bodies in the street.
The following is an excerpt from a fan letter I recently sent to the great tennis pro. I am far from an athlete, but I admire her for both her athletic acuity and her courage. I thought I'd share, since it's short and sweet.
We generally don't think of birth control as a sustainability solution. But even if you use seventh generation tampons, menstrual cups (ewwww!), or sew your own (please, hippie..there's a nasty blood stain on the back of your patchwork skirt), you're wasting resources.
Not to disparage hippies (I guess most of them don't get their periods anymore)...I love em!
More below the intertwined tampon strings...
Scientists use surface area to volume ratio as a tool to calculate all sorts of physical realities, from the vagaries of cell biology to environmental concerns such as food packaging. This simple concept is useful in describing the problems that have arisin from our increasingly lopsided economy.
Political Correctness often discourages discriminating against candidates because of their religions. I believe that kneejerk reaction is due to a conflation of non-voluntary demographics (eg, race and gender) with distinctly voluntary demographics (religion, political party).
The hardest thing we progressives have to do is counter arguments from the Right based on lies. Two summers ago I remember sitting in the living room with my mother having a discussion about "death panels." Not being a Fox News viewer, it was my first encounter with that particular lie, so I had nothing to say about it. I remember feeling as though I had just had the wind knocked out of me...my eyes popped open and my jaw fell slack. It was such a ridiculous, outlandish sort of claim that I feared for my mother's sanity. If she had told me that she had been abducted and anally probed by little green men I would have been only slightly more concerned.
Discontent among moms has been brewing for some time now, and this move, if unprecidented, was not a complete surprise.
The question on everyone's minds, of course, is if Obama would take a Reaganesque stance on this strike and fire all the moms. We hope he will take a pro-labor position and support this action.
Moms, unite! Any of you moms (or dads) out there are welcome to use this with your own little bosses...
[Oh, and btw...for a diary entry of mine with a little more meat, please check out my diatribe about the conversation I had with my Republican state representative in PA about the DRE voting machines. I want the word to get out that we're all concerned about voting integrity, even though we have a Democratic gov and sec of state.]
I just had a discussion with my PA state representative David J. Steil about DRE voting machine integrity. Why am I so doggone cynical about the nice corporations who only want to help the public?
