Rethug bomb throwers

by oldcrow

The recent attempt to scuttle the Iran/EU/US/etc. nuclear negotiations left me angry. What do the rethugs really want (besides embarrassing Obama)? Do they want what Bibi wants, Iran as a lifeless moonscape? A nuclear war with Iran? An invasion of Iran would take a million men, two years to prosecute, cost about 250,000 casualties (ours) and leave the US an international pariah, (although a teahadist rethug POTUS might just use nukes, which would really leave the US isolated, an international outcast.) (Something some teahadists would like to see). Ignorance is no excuse for evil, and I call it evil, whatever the result of the current negotiations, it was an honest attempt to keep the peace, and some semblance of stability in the region. The proxy wars between the Saudis and Iran over Sunni/Shia dominance of Islam will continue, regardless of what the US does. The main driver of the Iranian nuclear program was Saddam's feinted nuclear program, when Saddam fell, they stopped, but US belligerence during the Bush years made them fearful of US actions, so they re started.

"Islamic" Terrorism is Stupid

by oldcrow

With the recent spate of terrorist murders, I am simply amazed at the stupidity of the terrorists, and their leaders/handlers. If they wish to instill respect for their faith, instilling fear does not result in respect, it results in fear and loathing, if not outright hate. It does not advance their faith and culture, it makes them seem evil, barbaric and murderous. Their public displays of cruelty and murder will not sway governments, (who frankly have other things to consider) the people in those countries will demand justice and or revenge, not peace. The hidden backers of such groups have their own motives, the Saudis and the other gulf states are afraid of democracy and modernism, it threatens their power and wealth, so some of their elites fund many of these groups. The  terrorist idea of becoming 'heroes' by attracting US and other 'outside' enemies, is a bad gamble, if they anger enough countries, they will truly reap the whirlwind.

This too , shall pass

by oldcrow

About like a kidney stone, but it's just two years of shitstorm, with Obama having to veto a hundred crimes against humanity disguised as rethug bills. Even so, Joni Ernst? Why haven't they indicted Scut Wanker, yet? How did megathief Rick Scott get re-elected? Paul Le Page? really? Cruelty, bigotry and ignorance, the three horsemen of the repocalypse.

Rand Paul's isolationism is, by some, characterized as a good thing, that's arguable, it's presented as being a high moral position, but it, at it's core, is ISOLATIONISM, which, in an interconnected world, not such a good thing. Once you are past the faux 'peace' bit and you get to his other 'positions', you get a very different take.

ISIS is Doomed

by oldcrow

Yes, it's true, the murderous, sadistic 'Islamic State' will be history, and very soon. Why? How? Saudi Arabia is the short answer. The only Arab Muslim Superpower (although they keep that title under wraps, it's true). The Saudis have themselves to blame, in part. They are the ones who funded the expansion of extremist 'Wahabism', the most restrictive and conservative version of Islam. Wahabism embraces traditional (neolithic) Arab culture, as a standard of behavior, dress, etc. etc. It stresses silly things like "What is Islamic?" basically stating that everything invented or discovered after the death of the prophet is "un-islamic", and goes from there. (as for instance, the Saudi cleric who issued a fatwa stating that the world is flat-in 1985!)(Although we have a few Christians in the US who have similar views).

What Has Happened to Republicans?

by oldcrow

I remember, around 1960, my father came home with a pamphlet from the John Birch Society. That weekend he and a friend discussed it, laughing frequently at it's absurdities. My dad and his friend had grown up during the Great Depression, and served, at the 'sharp end' in WWII. At the time both voted pretty much for  Republicans.

An Idea for a National Ad

by oldcrow

A public 'shaming' of republican voters is called for, a 30 second  national ad stating "If you voted for a Republican in past elections YOU are responsible for:
Crumbling roads and bridges
A minimum wage that denies people the ability to live without Public Assistance
Stagnant politics
Chaos in immigration policy
Collapsing state and local budgets
Fattening the overseas accounts of billionaires and major corporations
The exporting of US jobs, without consequences to the corporations

The list is endless and needs to be carefully thought out and stated, but this could be is a start.

I Could Almost Feel Sorry for Boner

by oldcrow

As squeaker of the house, he never has a nice day. The teahadists loathe him, the Dems probably barley speak to him, and his caucus is divided several ways on every issue (except saying NO! to Obama). The era when Speakers were liked and or respected across the aisles, ended with that slimy poisonous Newt. Lately Speakers have been more like lightning rods than statesmen. Historically, Speakers have been controversial, but rarely, and some have been true statesmen, and men of integrity and political courage. Boner is cowardly, and after hanging on to his 'job' by caving to the knuckle dragging factions in his caucus, he has accomplished less than any speaker in history, (unless you count damaging the credit rating of the US).

Sue, Impeach, whatever...

by oldcrow

If the teahadists take the Senate, (they will keep the House , courtesy of the 2010 rethug takeover of so many state legislatures, and the subsequent gerrymandering),Then impeachment is almost certain, the republicklan faction has been screaming for impeachment since before Obama took office, and that is a big part of the teabag, and it's most ardent supporters.

Are the Koch brothers, etc. guilty of "crimes against humanity"? I say yes, and the fact that it's done for pointless, blind greed makes it worse than the usual run of ideological criminality. When will it be time to take charges to the International Criminal Court at the Hague? The potential mass deaths involved with unmitigated climate change, make the crimes of historical monsters like Hitler and Stalin look petty. Not mere millions, but billions are threatened. These are possibly the worst crimes ever contemplated, aided and abetted by the seemingly mindless 'corporate media'.

This is ludicrous

by oldcrow

In a website I visit, one of the 'sidebar' ads said "Urgent Poll: Should Obama be impeached for the tragedy in Benghazi" Just above it was an 'ad' with                                                                 a 'petition' for congress to investigate Obama's eligibility (birther crapola). Really? Is it just me, or are the well funded RWNJ's poisoning the internet.

The Roots of the French Revolution

by oldcrow

I am certainly not advocating violent revolution, but the parrallels of the event, and events currently unfolding are disturbing.
