DKos: Please Help Me

by pholkhero

I feel like i've become a "problem case" of the community (sadly, that's how big my ego is).  A few months ago, i wrote this diary about being at the end of my emotional and mental ropes.  Thankfully, so many of you turned up in the comments or in messages to help me out.

at this point, though, many things in my life have turned around over the past weeks ~ i've been exercising regularly, my relationship with my estranged wife has turned around to the point that we're discussing reconciliation, and i even found a couple of jobs, though one hasn't started yet and one is ending next week...which is the point of my diary today.

What really is fucking me up now is money, and I really have no where else to turn but here ~ i'm at the end of my rope now, and even now am crying in spurts as i write how fucked up my money situation is.   seeing it all here in black and white, i feel like such a scumbag who can't provide for his family and has to beg to make ends meet.

Like so many others, i lost my unemployment benefits that i was counting on.  I'm about to go buy a new tv and try to pawn it or sell it on craigslist so i don't bounce my payments.

ive been applying for any credit card i can so i can take cash advances to be able to pay for my rent and debt payment program, and to use for bills but I can't do even get a card now.  needless to say, my kids are getting homemade gifts this xmas

i don't know what else to do, or where to turn.  i'm applying for any and every job i see, but that isn't going to help me in the next few weeks when i'm so desperate for money.

sigh ~ now the pitch

I don't need much at all ~ only about $500 to get me through these next few weeks.  I believe that things are going to change for me soon and i just need help with my next two big payments that can't bounce or else my life gets so much more fucked than it is now.

i dont know if it sounds cheesy or manipulative or whatever, but i've seen this community rally around other members who have posted their need.  And i've seen the scams that have come and gone around here, and read the stories of people being burned.  I always think that these others have offered so much to this place, and what right do i have to even ask this of strangers, but, as i said, i literally don't know what else to do.  i have no family or friends that can loan me money, no other way to do this ~ i don't even know how to properly do this.  i set up a paypal account in the arrogant notion that i'll get help, but i don't know how to post that info on here.

please, DKos, i literally am begging for your help.

UN Poll Watchers Coming Next Month

by pholkhero

I saw this as a flash-by text on CNN whilst at the gym today, and then found this article from the Hill.

United Nations-affiliated election monitors from Europe and central Asia will be at polling places around the U.S. looking for voter suppression activities by conservative groups, a concern raised by civil rights groups during a meeting this week. The intervention has drawn criticism from a prominent conservative-leaning group combating election fraud.
It's only 44 observers, but they're going to PA, OH, WI, TX and one other state i can't think of (and the article doesn't say) in response to a request from NAACP, ACLU and others.  I, for one, am glad that there are going to be neutral observers who can actually report what's going on w/o any kind of D/R bias.

Of course, the conservative groups behind the voter-suppression tactics are aghast.  The doosh, er president, of True the Vote slammed the civil rights groups, having a sad that they didn't turn to "american" sources to watch the vote.  Ridiculous on its face.

Volunteer, Volunteer, Volunteer

by pholkhero

These next three weekends are BIG weekends for OFA.  It's time to start the GOTV machine hummin'.

more important than any money at this point would be to volunteer your time to phonebank or canvas supporters.

like i said, these next three weekends are the start of the final push, and there are shifts running all through the days.  Even if you just want to show up at the office and ask to lend a hand, they for sure won't turn you away!

Liveblogging the Phonebanking

by pholkhero

Tonight i went down to my local OFA office to help out some more, making phone calls and generally getting some positive karma in the bank.

The script tonight has us calling pholks who have previously said they'd support O, and we're trying to get them to commit to GOTV efforts over the next 3 weekends.

of course, afterwards, it's the debate watching!!  woot!!1!!!1!!111

so far, i've made about two dozen calls and spoke to a handful of people.  unfortunately for me, they've all been elderly ladies who just ain't comin in to GOTV.

more to come if anything exciting comes...but also, more to come if nothing else exciting happens.

I'm 99% Sure I Won't Harm Myself

by pholkhero

Sorry for the provocative title, but that's about where I'm at with my life.

So, my estranged wife is out for a romantic weekend, and I feel like I'm losing my mind, literally.

I'm anxious, and nauseous.  I can't stop thinking about their happiness (in all ways, not just sexual), and I can't deal with the powerlessness I have.  I feel like I HAVE to write his or . . . i don't know . . . i just need feedback and support.

Some background and meditations following the hopefully helpful squiggly.

OMFG: Romney sleeps nude!

by pholkhero

I'm sorry for putting that image into everyone's head, so close to dinner here on the east coast, but just this on political wire, and had to share (my vomitous feelings).

Mitt Romney and his wife, Ann, were interviewed on LIVE! with Kelly and Michael for a show airing next Tuesday, Reuters reports.

One of Romney's revelations: "I'm kind of a Snooki fan. Look how tiny she's gotten -- her spark-plug personality."

He was also asked what he wore to bed at night and replied, "I think the best answer is as little as possible."

[that sound is me throwing up in my mouth again]

but wait, there's more!  There's the peeping tom wife!  :)

Meanwhile, Ann Romney confessed what she found while exploring the White House: "It was George Bush having a massage. He was covered up. I was so embarrassed that the next time I saw him I didn't know what to say. He looked at me and winked and said, 'I look pretty good, don't I?'"
[but also, what's up with G W?  trying to pick up ann??]

but the part that makes me gleeful:

The Washington Post reports the interview "brought shudders from some Republicans, who fear the Romney campaign is running aground in its final stretch.
somehow, i see a palin moment here (well, another one, that is) which means i'll have to breakdown and watch Live!

Morning in America All Over Again

by pholkhero

The 1984 Reagan commercial, officially titled "Prouder, Stronger, Better," had, as its opening line: "It's morning again in america."

It featured a montage of images of Americans going to work and a calm, optimistic narration that suggested the improvements to the U.S. economy since his 1980 election were due to Reagan's policies and asked voters why they would want to return to the pre-Reagan policies of Democrats like his opponent Walter Mondale, who had served as the Vice President under Reagan's immediate predecessor Jimmy Carter.
-  Wikipedia [bold added]

If you replace Reagan with Obama, and Democrats with the Republicans in the above, it would aptly describe the arguments at the DNC these past few days.  They answered the question, "Are You Better Off Now?" with a loud YES, but also with a caveat of more work to come.

Does Anyone Else Feel That?

by pholkhero

And no, i don't mean the stomach pains I have from some virus i caught last week...

I feel this rising sense of Obama-ness coming.

I feel like the RNC was such a dud, and didn't move the marker any for Romney.

I feel like Team O and the Dems are going to hit it out of the park this week.

I feel like this is when BHO breaks it wide open with his counter-argument, and vision for the next four years.

I always thought Romney's bounce would be small, but I always have thought that after this is when O's numbers will start to hit 50 around the map.

Just watching MSNBC yesterday, and you see the almost-carnival atmosphere in charlotte.  True, it was a labor day celebration, but there just seems to be so much more optimism.

And maybe that's all that i feel ~ blind-eyed optimism ~ but I still think this is when the Dems really kick it into high gear, and show America what a truly pathetic candidate teh republicans have when weighed against what's to come for us w/re-election.

Maybe it's just me...

[hate to diary and run, but I need to get some last minute school supplies for the kids today]

So, the AP is out with breaking story that R-Mizzle is using

a secretive data-mining project that sifts through Americans' personal information – including their purchasing history and church attendance – to identify new and likely, wealthy donors
and who did this little firm used to business with?  I'll give you three guesses.  The first letter is B and the second is AIN.
Buxton confirmed that the data-mining project began with the help of Dick Boyce, Romney's former Bain & Co. colleague, after Romney joined fundraising forces with the Republican National Committee. Buxton expressed such confidence in his business and analysis methods that, in nearly two decades of running his firm, he told AP he has always been able to answer essential questions for customers.

"I can look at data of any kind and say, `I want to know who that $100 donor could be,'" Buxton said. "We look at data of any kind."

It also says that the Obama campaign uses data mined from FB and Twitter but refused to comment on its practice.  Also says no money changed hands....

coupled with a new usa/gallup poll showing (again) what we already know: obama is more likeable than R-MONEY by more than 20%, its heaping, helping of Schadenfreude for breakfast.

Almost every year come September, many returning students have to write the obligatory "What I Did On My Summer Vacation" essay.

This op-ed piece from Mr Romney reads like so many of these essays.

Via the AP:

U.S. Capitol Police said Thursday that officers are investigating a reported threat against Rep. Todd Akin, the Missouri congressman who has been criticized for comments he recently made about rape.

Several threats have been made against the congressman, his family and staff since the interview aired, Akin spokesman Steve Taylor said. Taylor said threats of rape and other violence have been aimed at Akin through phone calls, emails and tweets.

is it too cynical of me to think it's a clandestine, GOP-backed effort to get him out of the race?

also, how hard is it for capitol police to track threats from email and twitter accounts??  don't the accounts have some sort of ISP address??
