OK, so check this out.
We have hugely out of control health care costs in this country. One of the single largest causes of this is the increase in obesity and the many problems associated with it, not least of which is Type II diabetes. People have estimated we could save tens of billions of dollars a year in health care costs if only Americans would get into better shape.
Now, along comes the underpants bomber, and in the wake of his failed terrorist attack, a strong push to install backscatter body scanners at all airports. These scanners, though they cannot literally see your skin through your clothes, can see the shape of your body under your clothing quite clearly. Not only that, they can also see if you are wearing a girdle, a push-up bra, or have a potato stuffed in your underwear. So, there's no hiding your true self when you step through one.
In spite of promises that screeners will be off-site and never see the faces of the people they are seeing nearly naked, I think most people will assume that somehow pictures will start to leak out. So what will that lead to? I say, a revolution in fitness!
Imagine the ad campaigns:
"Is your body 'backscatter ready'? Join Gold's Gym today!"
"Try the new Nutrisystem Backscatter Diet! Guaranteed to make you proud to be scanned!"
