Posse of volunteers will lay down the law in Schenectady

Signed, sealed and delivered. Public accountability? Transparency in government? Not so much.

This guy? Not a cop. Not a public servant.
He's a self-employed lawyer in police officer drag.

The contract approved by the Schenectady County legislature awarding the private Schenectady County SPCA 50% of any money they can gouge out of dog owners through enforcement of licensing, leash and dangerous dog laws, plus control of the balance of the money and access to vehicles purchased and maintained at taxpayer expense took effect on November 15.

New Revenue Scheme for Animal Extremist Innovator

Schenectady SPCA sets itself up for 50% off the top

. . . thanks to its lawsuit against the Sheriff

Private persons associated on a volunteer basis with a private corporation and a clear animal extremist agenda will be independently enforcing dog control laws in Schenectady County -- without having to answer to county officials -- if legislators approve the "Vicious Dog Control Law of 2011" on November 9.

As payment, the private corporation will receive 50% of all fines paid to the county stemming from their enforcement of state dog laws. The remaining 50% of the monies paid by Schenectady dog owners pursuant to the enforcement of public laws will also go to the SCSPCA, in compensation for sheltering impounded animals.

The Schenectady SPCA does not operate a shelter and it never has.

As an added bonus when the contract gets signed, the private SCSPCA gains access to vehicles purchased and maintained at taxpayer expense.

In exchange for the money, the contract to enforce dog control regulations throughout the county, and the vehicles, the SCSPCA agrees to drop the lawsuit it filed against the Schenectady County Sheriff.

and Totally Screws Responsible Dog Owners

The City Council's "humane" triumph prohibits responsible containment and restraint of dogs and other animals. Transparency in government? Completely Missing In Action.

Understand: with animal rights extremists start writing laws, no one wins. The whacked-out list of prohibitions and restrictions taking effect in NYC appears to include walking leashed dogs in public places.

In the "humane" war against animal ownership, is Uno the Westminster Champion Beagle the first casualty ?

As ASPCA Prez Ed Sayres struggledand failed to contain outragefrom his own constituencyover the decision to kill an abused dogpreviously used as a fund-raising and public relations tool, somebody in upstate New York saw a golden opportunity.

Did New York legislators get taken for a ride by opportunists at Pets Alive, a self-styled "no kill animal sanctuary" in Middletown, New York when they signed on to "Oreo's Law" -- a proposal prohibiting shelters from killing dogs if a "responsible" alternative facility exists?

First of all, if by "puppymills" you mean "abusive, unlawful dog breeding facilities that violate generally accepted animal husbandry practices" . . .well, all I can say is: whoop de doo.

Beginning May 1, the New York City Housing Authority intends to enforce its new "pet policy" for the almost 178,000 apartments scattered throughout New York's five boroughs that are under its control. NYCHA provides homes to more than 400,000 New Yorkers.

Never much of a pet-friendly landlord, in 2002 NYCHA agreed to allow tenants one dog or cat, providing the pet was neutered and weighed 40 lbs. or less.

But that was then. This is now.

Humane Society of the United States, Best Friends Animal Society and the ASPCA are set to cash in on court ordered forfeitures.

The latest scheme in creative funding for humane societies -- which are private corporations controlled and directed by their own boards of directors -- not open to public scrutiny -- will take funds from the public sector and put it into the pockets of non-governmental agencies with no specifics on how it is to be used.

Once again, that's public funds. Private sector. No strings attached.

Unable to keep the glee out of his comments, the 34 year old Chief of Schenectady's brand new SPCA, Mathew Tully, can't wait to start laying down the law in Schenectady County, New York. His crew of gun-packing volunteer peace officers will have full police powers of arrest while investigating animal cruelty allegations.

There are a lot of legal hurdles to clear because the SPCA is one of the only law enforcement entities not controlled by the government.

So there's Hizzoner the Mayor, cuddling for the cameras with a distinctly pit bull-looking pup. The photo-op was sound dog politics on the part of Bloomberg, the guy charged with riding herd on some of the most assertive, pit bull-friendliest dog owners dog owners on the planet.

Then Bloomberg threw a fundraiser for City Councilman Peter Vallone, Jr.: a politician making a career out of fostering fear and hatred in brilliantly blue NYC with proposals like banning dogs, baggy pants and graffiti.

California AB 1634 ain't about "breeder's rights" in California. Hell, no.

The proposal's sponsor, Lloyd Levine--Democratic Assemblyman and animal extremist tool from Van Nuys--may be struggling to keep the spotlight focused on those nasty dog and cat "breeders" but he just took aim at the homes--and pets--of well over 15,000,000 dog owners and 13,000,000 cat owners in California.

Levine thinks they aren't smart enough to make veterinary care decisions. He wants the State of California to do it for them: mandated, compulsory surgical sterilization at 16 weeks of age.
