I've recently completed an international move to a North Carolina army base, and as I sit and type this on my phone I am sitting across from two older contractors at an on post bar. The conversation up until now has been pretty much what I'd expect from the south: bashing Obama, making fun of the healthcare.gov failures, saying that tea party'ers are throwing a hissy fit and breaking everything because they can't get the toy they want.
Wait what? That's an almost verbatim quote, and it made me do a double take. Prior to that comment I had been trying to contain my displeasure at the standard misinformed and outright false statements that they chortled to each other. But when the conversation turned to the shutdown these three conservatives had only one group to blame.
To take some choice words from the tirade about the tea party I overheard, and pardon the language: "dumbest shit I've seen from a politician", "like a bunch of spoiled kids", and my personal favorite, the above, "want to break the whole playground because no one will play their game."
It put a smile on my face during an otherwise tiresome Friday.
