‘It’s been claimed that the Trump was sent to us as a savior. I don’t doubt it. Trump was indeed sent - though not in order to save the United States but to ruin it. Providence has determined the destruction of America, and Trump is the executor of this will.’
That quote above is my contemporary version of what Nazi intelligence reported from an anonymous German in 1944 ... as Hitler's dreams lay in shambles and the walls of inevitability closed in around Berlin with the Allied advance. You can find the original quote here.
I cut my teeth fighting with Conservatives online back in 1998 on The Motley Fool's 'Political Asylum' forum … god I loved it. I still miss those TMF heydays. Anyway, I held strong on PA throughout the travesties of George W. Bush's first term, but when America was stupid enough to "re" elect W to in 2004, I just didn't have the stomach to be so pissed all the time. Still, I never lost my willingness to correct Republican ignorance when it needed correcting online and in real life … to the consternation of my ignorant Republican co-workers. Good god Republicans are so fucking gullible and stupid … they need constant correcting.
Anyway, I look back upon those early days as the heady times of political discussions online. Back then, Republicans actually provided reasonably respectable links to bolster their arguments, and they'd even evaluate your linked sources, rather than just blithely declaring "BULLSHIT" without even trying. Republican trolls back then did try to provide a credible case; but in the end, they were Republican after all … just as wrong then as they are today. But I do miss the days when none of them ever said, "I don't believe that" when presented with empirical facts. Ahhhh, Happy Days!.
Yet that's where we are today. We've got our political opposition represented by a large swath of less-than-humans in this country who refuse to believe any information unless it comes from sites that only spew outlandish, ridiculous bullshit. How are we supposed to reason with that? The 20 seconds I spend to thoroughly shame their claim with utter debunk is roughly 18 more seconds than they spent evaluating that claim … and they don’t believe my debunk anyway. Never, not once have I heard one them say say, “Wow, I feel so foolish for even thinking something so preposterous was true.” Nope. They just keep on posting outlandish shit. How. Can. We. Reason. With. That?
I haven't turned on NPR since that racist travesty Trump got elected. I just can't stomach the idea of hearing any coverage that attempts to legitimize Trump in any way shape or form. Also, my asshole itches at the idea of hearing that piece of shit Trumpet Mara Liasson again … that “reporter” who eschewed any semblance of actual journalism in favor of mindless daily, scandalous, poll-driven drivel a long time ago. I feel a hemorrhoid coming on just typing the name, Mara Lias...s..on. Fuck, be right back. Gotta hit the head. Trump is partially her fault, and NPR’s.
I miss NPR. I really do. My mornings feel so empty and quiet since I stopped tuning in, literally, within the first 5 seconds after I woke up each morning ... not to mention ATR every evening. Gosh it's so quiet in my house since Trump got elected.
While I do give NPR credit for providing more substantive coverage, it was never enough. They towed the MSM narrative just fine ... so much wasted on air time on stuff that matter not one iota. Fuck Mara Liasson. You have a bright and lucrative career awaiting you on Fox as the token "liberal stooge" ... please fuck off.
I've transferred my former monthly NPR "pledge" to Amazon Prime instead, but I pledge to pledge it back once Mara Liasson goes the fuck away. Don't worry. I'm offsetting it with monthly contributions to Planned Parenthood, ACLU, Doctors Without Borders, and the NAACP, since we now have a fascist who will occupy the White House. We need those orgs to watch our backs.
And that brings me back to the whole point of this post (I think) ... fighting/debating with Republicans. I quote (with slight modification) the hero Kyle Reese from the 1984 classic film, The Terminator:
Listen, and understand! [Republicans are] out there! [They] can't be bargained with. [They] can't be reasoned with. [They] don't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And [they] absolutely will not stop... ever, until you are dead!
That’s where we are with Republican discourse. Frame it in whatever way you want, but that’s all I ever encounter with them. Even the ones who are vastly more intelligent than I am … they’re total morons of Republicanism. How can we save this country from Trump?
Here's what I told a Trump-supporting co-worker who stopped by my office after the election to rub my nose in the shit that will be our next President:
"Don't even. A majority of this country voted against Trump and the Republican agenda, so however they're racist ways fuck up this country, it's all on you."
He hasn't been by my office since. I don't mind being bitter about this election. I was bitter after 2000, but I reconciled … got “over it.” With Trump, I'm pretty sure this country deserves to burn. I wish I didn't have to burn with this new America, but I didn’t make this bed ... I only sleep in it now.
Never the less, I can’t help but feel like Providence has decided the American experiment has gone as far as it deserves to go.
