IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

Greetings friends, and welcome to another Saturday! We made it through another week, congratulations to us!
So, I have a question, or maybe a few… Think carefully about your answers. Are you, yes… you, over there, hiding behind the computer screen.. Are you super knowledgeable about one or two topics in particular, or maybe even a bunch of topics? Do you want a chance to show and share what you know? Are you, maybe… just maybe, a geek, just like me? If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, then I may have the perfect place for you.
For the last several years, I have been a member of STARFLEET International (SFI). For the most part I have been a fairly quiet member. I sat on discord, and joined the chapter meetings once or twice a month, quietly collecting promotion points, and yelling at an empty room whenever I was informed that I was being promoted.
Recently though, I got seriously bored, and went looking for something new to do, just for laughs. I found myself on the STARFLEET Academy webpage, looking at all the various courses they offer. The long and the short of it is, that over the next two days I enrolled in, and took exams for seven different courses, and passed all seven, several with Honors or even Distinction.
SFI offers courses in sciences, technology, medicine, arts and entertainment, pop culture, literature, and so much more. If you have an interest in learning about something, odds are, we have a course that will scratch your particular itch, and no.. not all the courses are Trek related. In fact, all things considered, surprisingly few of them are.
If you decide to join, you can even hook up with a chapter (ship) in your area, or not… (the ship I am a part of is based in Colorado, so.. location isn’t always a factor.) But you don’t have to join a ship at all if you would prefer not to. Many of us remain unassigned.
I should warn you that membership isn’t free. We went from $5.00 a year to $10.00 a year as of this month, but once you are a member, you have access to the entire course catalog of the STARFLEET Academy. Am I shilling for SFI? Maybe a little, though that was not my intention when I started writing this diary. I will be the first to admit that SFI has its flaws, but after resisting for a few years, I have to admit I have had a lot of fun with the Academy of late.
