I had a revelation. It is of the sort that left me somewhat stunned. I struggle for words to put this revelation into terms that fully express how painful and disappointing it is. This new awareness is more in magnitude rather than new information.
First some background. I was born and raised in a very racist area in Indiana. It was the norm to hear ethnic epithets and jokes on a daily basis. Many times from members of my own family or in my youth, they came from my own mouth. It was not uncommon for members of the community to spin yarns of ancestors belonging to the Klan. The KKK has a long history in Indiana. When a conversation about blacks would come up someone would invariably say, “So and so town use to have a sign on the road that said, “N****r don’t let the sun set on you in this town.” The pride in their voice was clearly evident. Growing up in this environment is poisonous. My mother rescued me from this mental depravity with her kindness and personal regard for all people through her career in nursing. I also have to say that education, specifically learning about Martin Luther King, broke the influence my early racist environment had on me.
With this upbringing, one thing I know how to identify is a racist. Donald Trump , among other things, is a racist. He is so familiar to me. I am reminded of so many of the people in the community I grew up in when I hear him speak. We can only imagine what he says behind closed doors after hearing his public statements.
I know none of this is new, but hang in there with me. Take a moment and think of all the foul, disgusting, dishonest statements spoken by Trump. Think of all the distorted, salacious generalities based on stereotypes gushing from his mouth. Envision his mannerisms and tone when he speaks. Its pretty damn ugly!
There is one thing uglier: the man was elected by 58% of whites in America. That is over half of the white electorate. White voters put Donald Trump into the most powerful position on the planet.
With this large of a component of the white race in America voting for Trump, they should never be trusted again. They vote for him because “He’s going to shake things up in DC.” or because “He tells it like it like it is.” This is a voting body willing to trade international credibility for torture. A voting body willing to sacrifice a free and independent press for a t-shirt. A population sold on the idea of mass deportation for a false sense of job security.
To all the other races: the majority of the white race in America cannot be trusted. (I use majority to avoid sweeping platitudes like those used by DJT.) Do not turn your back on them. If you see them at a traffic light lock your door. If you see them in your neighborhood call 911. If you hear them talking, know that most of it is a lie.
Never trust the majority of white Americans; that is my revelation.
