I started down this road after reading some of the debate about the use of the term "fascism" to describe our current state of affairs. I admit to using that phrase a bit too freely on occasion, but generally I don't think it properly applies. I think a key element of a fascist world is the leadership of a demagogue. And while Junior is certainly a control-freak, and many other terrible things, he does not lead or govern through the force of personality.
So, then I decided I wanted to read some of the diaries that I assumed were written over the last year or so that analogized our current world with the one that Orwell envisioned. However, to my surprise, a simple search of "Orwell" and "1984" turned up no diaries on the subject.
So, I thought, fair game. Let me take a hack at organizing my thoughts.
And if you think this is a stupid, obvious, boring, or useless exercise, move along to another diary. No hard feelings.
