Oh wait, no it doesn't. Maybe the French remember their own history, when the rich aristocracy paid no taxes at all. They all got their heads cut off or fled France altogether. Or maybe the French are just trying to have a reasonable plan at deficit reduction. Either way, they are gonna tax the rich with a 3% increase. I wonder if they will be able to bear this increase...but what's this? Some of those rich French people actually wanted to be taxed more???

If Wisconsinites, and by greater extension the progressive movement, are playing to win there needs to be a General Strike coordinated as soon as possible. Walker and his ilk are playing absolute hardball. Their actions must be met in kind.

My mother works as an elementary school Teacher's Aid in Upstate New York. In light of Governor Cuomo's earlier statements regarding going after NY public employees, along with what is going on in the Midwest I felt compelled to ask her when her next union meeting was. She told me it is tomorrow, so i asked her if I wrote something would she read it? She said yes, being the good mother that she is ;). Below is what I have written for her to read.

No, wait, I apologize. They didn't fix any of that. It was all a dream.

The New York Yankees announced massive price reductions in specific seating areas. Apparently, they were tired of having the same attendance figures as a .500 Triple-A minor league team as opposed to a .500 Major League Team, which according to Forbes was one of the most profitable teams last season. As many sports commentators, fans, and bloggers noted, New Yankee Stadium had all the accoutrements of a ballpark except paying spectators. U.S. Census Data puts the population of New York City at roughly 8.2 million people (data from 2006). Taking into account a percentage of residents as non-Yankees fans, factor in another percentage of residents as non-baseball fans, and we are left with a workable amount of people willing to attend ball games.

This is a continuation of a most regrettable feeling. Lately I have had the sense that President Obama was starting to waffle on his campaign promise, turned into actual stated policy, that the US will have removed combat forces from Iraq by the summer of 2010.

Military experts believe we can safely redeploy combat brigades from Iraq at a pace of 1 to 2 brigades a month that would remove them in 16 months. That would be the summer of 2010 – more than 7 years after the war began.

I am still in disbelief that the United States Attorney General would dismiss even the thought of prosecuting CIA interrogators for torture by stating, "It would be unfair to prosecute dedicated men and women working to protect America for conduct that was sanctioned in advance by the Justice Department." How would prosecution be unfair again? After all, this is what was done to detainees in our name. And this.

Eric Holder, the Attorney General, is basically saying because George W. Bush’s Justice Department wrote legal memorandum justifying the CIA’s conduct anyone following what the memos said should not be prosecuted.
