A mayoral race in the normally mild-mannered state of Maine has turned very, very ugly. Ben Chin—the Democratic candidate in the runoff election for mayor of Lewiston, the state’s second-largest city—has come under attack from state Rep. Lawrence Lockman, one of the state’s most odious Republicans, in a rant inspired by Pat Buchanan:
Meanwhile, an anti-Christian bigot named Ben Chin is a long-time fellow employee of Tipping's at MPA. Chin hates America, hates Americans, and hates Christians, and he wants to allow non-citizens to vote. He's running for mayor of Lewiston with the backing of the aforementioned criminal street gang Marxist Peoples Alliance, a group of young Bolsheviks who engage in burglary, bullying, intimidation, and criminal trespass.
Lockman has a history of making offensive, and divorced-from-reality comments like these. Last year, Mike Tipping of the Bangor Daily News went though the make-your-eyes-bleed task of documenting Lockman’s decades of extremism, which includes arguing for a man’s right to “to force himself on a woman,” spreading misinformation about AIDS, and various attacks on gays and lesbians, which he calls “the militant homosexual movement.”
This isn’t the first time that Chin has had to endure outrageous attacks in this race, either. Last month, a Lewiston landlord posted signs in his buildings warning residents “Don’t vote for Ho Chi Chin,” earning the small town race national headlines.
Chin led the November 3 election 44-37 against incumbent Republican Mayor Robert E. Macdonald. The runoff election is December 8.
