This is a beautiful illustration of everything that is wrong with the GOP and why it has ceased to be a rational, contributing partner to the future greatness of this Country. Instead of a principled, balanced and restrained ideological yang to the democratic yin, the modern GOP is a circus. What happens when your party depends for votes on the likes of Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh, FOX News and the "pundits" who control it? You get guys like Michael Steele. Witness Michael Steele now answer to his masters for his convoluted understanding of their carefully woven web of bullshit.

Rove, "the Architect"...every time I hear that phrase or see Sean Hannity cream his Jeans repeating it while interviewing Karl Rove, I just want to barf.

Apparently the allure of easy poon overrides the marital vows he took and, like so many of his conservative brethren, his deeds do not match his words. What exactly is this guy "the architect" of, anyway? So far as I can see, it has been nothing but garbage, built on garbage and supported by garbage, with garbage results.

Who is telling us that if THIS bill dies, reform dies? Who believes that if this bill fails, then the democratic party has failed or Obama has failed? Don't buy it. Don't accept it.

It is simply wrong.

Let's have a better discussion about bringing costs down and providing better care. Let's debate the merits without using scare tactics. Let's stop letting the inanity of the summer deter us from trying to break through to the logic within us all. Follow me a spell and listen to my yarn:

The problem of radical Islamic extremism, the issue of Afghanistan as its home base and the very real threat posed to America and others by such declared enemies of the United States is a matter of serious and immediate concern. This problem has festered too long. It needs a meaningful and effective solution, one demonstrably lacking over the past 8 years. If I told you 8 years ago that we'd still be chasing Osama in 2009...that Afghanistan teetered on the verge of failure...you'd never have believed me.

Barrack Obama is exactly right. Before we accede to any demands to commit additional resources and troops to a strategy that has thus far yielded questionable results, we should first question our basic assumptions about the nature of our enemy and the strategy so far employed. Follow me over the jump and let me explain how we can seize this moment to turn the tide in this war, start our own national healing and simultaneously achieve true national security.

Today it is reported that the social security system is closer to insovlency than previously anticipated and I can't help but wonder why ....why in this time of massive bailouts...a program that has provided security and stability to four generations of retiring WORKING AMERICANS is deemed expendable. Despite the good faith contribution of millions of working Americans, this program will die, this government promise broken while truckloads of money are poured into saving businesses teetering on the brink of failure as a result of gross mismanagement, flawed business models, and abject greed. Somehow, it just doesn't seem fair. Follow me below for my thoughts....

The most interesting thing about the Tea Parties today was the mix of people....I think the GOP is trying to pretend that it's (part of/thought of) this "movement" b/c it's the closest thing they've got to grass roots energy....which is sad. But there is some grass roots energy, ala Ron Paul.

The best thing about the mix of people, though, was watching the intellectually honest republicans (and yes, there still are some) bashing the crap out of Bush for the same reasons we do: irresponsible, corrupt government, abuse of power, irresponsible fiscal policy and mismanaged foreign relations. BASHING BUSH. These seemed to be the guys wit the real message, but they were an obvious minority. There were others... Bushies....they were there too...but conspicuously silent in defending Bush, not defending the policies being hammered on by the real grass roots element of this organization. Instead, they were solely and exclusively bashing Obama for the very same things.... bashing Obama for the VERY same policies...and then pretending like the Bush era never happened.....causing a short circuiting feedback loop in many that spawned the following transmogrification:

The BBC reported last week that fundamentalist Islamist factions have occupied six military bases in Mogadishu vacated by Ethiopian peace keepers and seem poised to claim the Somali government. http://news.bbc.co.uk/...

What do we gain by spending trillions to occupy, pacify and remake Iraq or Afghanistan when the radical religious fundamentalist can simply set up shop in another country, or better yet, use the democratic processes we work so hard to build to legally assume power through political means? What is our wider strategic vision for containing the spread of radical religious extremism? What tools are available and how should they be employed? Follow me and help flesh out a better policy for tomorrow....

Times change. Things change. Failure to adapt in the face of change can be a recipe for disaster. I was against Iraq from the get-go...not because I'm necessarily against pre-emptive aggression or thought Saddam a satisfactory ruler, but because, from a military perspective, invading Iraq at that moment in time was a grossly negligent and totally unnecessary strategic and tactical blunder in the declared war against Al-Qaida and the meme of radical religous fundamentalism.....a threat, I submit, substantially more dangerous than Saddam Huessein or the lack of democracy in the Middle East. So I have been a vocal anti-Iraq war activist consistently advocating withdrawal from Iraq and recommitment to Afghanistan from 2002 until.....well, possibly until now.

In what I can only describe as a pathetically conceived dog and pony show designed more as PR for Joe the Plumber than anything remotely resembling their personal reality, representatives of the Big 3 auto makers came to Washington, again, today, to do their Chicken Little dance. This time they drove from Michigan to DC instead of flying their corporate gulfstreams. Having received no small amount of static for that elitist stunt last week and apparently wishing to avoid the repetition of that mistake ala their elite dumbass counterparts at AIG, today they drove their companies' pathetic hybrid vehicles (not even their own cars) to DC as part of their loan application. Apparently we are supposed to be "wowed" by their "foreward looking vision" and "modern business plan" and products. It would be amusing were it not so pathetic.

Look, just an idea, take it or leave it..... but don't let it escape you that this was and is a defining moment in our political history and, really, in the history of the world. There are plenty of good folks out there and this video was aimed squarely between their eyes...folks who are going to vote Republican because they've been unable to cut through the noise of their a.m. radio ...or whatever their particular ailment might be. Good folks, nonetheless...who simply haven't considered a reasonable point of view in a long time....good folks who will vote for McCain next Tuesday unless we change their minds. Imagine if they voted for Obama, instead.

The video is 27 minutes long. Tomorrow, I'm sending it to my right wing friends who just don't seem to get it, asking them to watch it. I'm Asking if they can spare 27 minutes for the future of their country..if for nothing else, then out of respect for me and my point of view. I think most will watch it, and I'm sending it with this message. You're welcome to it....use it, fix it, improve it, but whatever you do....send the video out to your friends and family. Put the viral power of our knowledge to work and be ready to duke it out for Barrack.
