How much is ‘enough’…..
As an unemployed worker who now has first hand knowledge of foreclosure and the power of the banking industry and corporations, I am nonplussed. How much is enough? The zeros in a long queue preceded by a dollar sign and yet another digit are so strange to me. A million? A billion? They just don’t figure in my world of numbers. I am forced to think at most, in double digits…. dollars for food, weeks of unemployment benefits and months without work. Lowly, humble numbers rule my world. And I fear those who share my world are counted in bigger numbers day by day.
So astounding it is to see profits last year’s for GE of $14,200,000,000; Followed by that familiar $0, as in federal taxes paid by GE. But the confusion returns to learn GE also received a tax credit of $3,200,000,000 from the American people.
So how much is enough? One lonely million sounds to me like it would last more than my life time. I just don’t get all those zeros I see in news copy or hear about on talk TV; The zeros so often disappeared by way of an attached M or B. Doesn’t seem to matter. I still don’t understand. Will someone please explain life as a Millionaire? There are millions of you out there who live by those numbers. Roughly 8.9% of Americans. What about the Billionaires of which there are 1210 worldwide? Can any one of you please help me to understand why that is not enough to someone who works for a living, if work could be had? Tell me if the ‘American Dream’ for working people has been reduced to a lottery for a lucky few? With the unlucky living a future as the dispossessed or begging for the few federal dollars to forestall foreclosure. Perhaps being without health care for over a year now, is a silver lining of relief since there may not be much future to be concerned about. I just don’t get all those zeros….
