I am a Berner, but I’m also a realist, and right now, it doesn’t look so good for my guy. So- yes, I will support our nominee, regardless... and urge my friends to do so. And I would like to do it at least as enthusiastically as I have been Bernin’.

This is where you Clintonistas come in.

Give me a message. A good, honest-to-god, get-off-your-butts-and-vote message. Something that inspires, something that sets sights higher than maintaining the status quo. Something that will help Democrats in down ticket races as well.

Ready? GO!

One of the ugliest local races in the country is being fought out in New York's 40th Senate District. Money on both sides is flooding into this Hudson Valley district from Albany and beyond, as this could be the race that decides control of the state senate.

The democrat in the race is Justin Wagner, a fine progressive who lost 50-49 last time 'round.

The NY-18 congressional district is one of the swingiest in New York state. Redrawn in 2010, it was held by a tea partier and was high on the DCCC's "red-to-blue" list in 2012. It's now rep'd by freshman Sean Patrick Maloney, who won on both the Democratic and Working Families lines... An irony that will become readily apparent after the Great Orange Squiggle

The Department of Justice needs a thorough housecleaning, but it’s probably not for the reason you think. In fact, these new revelations make the seizure of the AP’s phone records look like pretty small beans. For the first time, the FBI and the Department of Justice are accusing a reporter of being a co-conspirator in an Espionage Act case. More after the squiggley goodness.

Post-Katrina, Hancock County Mississippi is about 10,000 houses shy of being rebuilt... so the day after Christmas, my gang and I are heading back to Bay St. Louis for a week of intensive building.

We started off as seven and now we are almost seventy. For some of us, it's our fifth trip since Hurricane Katrina came ashore, yet we've barely started to make a dent.

Stunning, isn't it? The Wildly Incompetent and Criminally Negligent will be out of office in eight weeks, yet there's so much work that still needs to be done.

Hopefully, the new administration will realize the job is too big for volunteers alone... but in the meantime, we're going back again.

For the first time in a decade, Amtrak's reauthorization was approved.
It came over the objections of the administration, which has been relentless in its attempts to cut Amtrak funding.

The vote was 74-24... and yes, John "90%" McCain voted "nay."

From the AP:

The legislation authorizes $2.5 billion a year for Amtrak, almost double its current federal funding level. The money would cover operating and capital expenses, including equipment purchases and railroad repairs. About $1.4 billion would help pay down Amtrak's more than $3 billion in debt.
