I Am A Cyclist is the mantra in a commercial for a very high end workout bike, and I've seen that commercial way too many times as I've watched Le Tour de France for the past 3 weeks. For me the mantra is "I am a Cyclist and I am a Knitter", and yes, the two activities are for the most part mutually exclusive, but bike racing seems to be a happy medium.

When I volunteered to do a diary on this particular day I grossly underestimated how busy I would be after returning from three weeks away from home. Therefore this is going to be a short diary.

So, what am I working on? Well I'm glad you asked, I continue to work on the Lacey tank top that was my vacation knit. As usual I grossly overestimated how much time I would spend knitting and took two balls of yarn with me and even though I have been home for over a week and knitting steadily I haven't touched the second ball yet. I don't know why, but for some reason I like to read in the evening after a day spent bike touring. I did however, get a lot of knitting done while on planes and trains.

Since I'm working on an article of clothing I thought I would give a little talk on gauge.

Like Winifred I've been AWOL the past couple weeks because I'm leaving for a cycling vacation in two weeks and have been getting extra hours on the bike getting the old body ready for it. I love my cycling vacations, but I have done enough bike tours to know that by day four I'm exhausted; so this year I'm attempting to prevent a little of that exhaustion by getting extra time in the saddle. This diary is not about my vacation though (two week cycling pilgrimage from Lisbon to Santiago de Compestello, with some additional site seeing in Lisbon at the start thank you for asking); it's about the craft project I take with me.

When you are looking at yarn does it ever speak to you? Have you ever heard your knitting needles, or crochet hook, or paint brushes or whatever your crafting tool is - whimper because it wants to be used? Well don't worry, you are not going crazy, I certainly hear those voices as well.

Greetings all! This is my first diary for What Are You Working On Today and my first diary on DailyKos, any constructive criticism is welcome. First let me introduce myself, my name is Letitia and I am a knitter and a weaver, I also crochet, but only when necessary. I have been knitting for over 20 years and have a fondness for lace. I started weaving about 2 years ago, mainly looking for a way to finish a blanket in less than 3 months and got bitten by the bug. I bought my first floor loom in December. The majority of my knitting and weaving is for charity, hence my moniker, there is usually a purpose to my knitting. So, enough about me, follow me below the fold to see my current projects.
