Last night's election certainly was a "wake-up" call to the Democratic Party and in many respects has continued the media narrative that the 2010 elections will be a Republican sweep. The reasons for this are many and have been discussed here (lack of message, "Centrism" by the Obama administration, obstruction by the Right, etc)
Nonetheless, after a year of President Obama, there are few results that signify change.. few results that the American voter wanted and few results that would make Independents or even the base turnout in 2010 to support the President. This does not mean that the President has not brought change. yet the changes are relatively few and more importantly are minor changes.
There can be two directions the President can lead the country after last night. He can see Brown's win as a sign that Americans want a middle-ground approach, and if doesnt appeal to the moderates more, he is in trouble. Alternatively, he can interpret last night as a sign that he has not had chnages he promised.. and needs to do better to bring that to the American people.
