[From navajo, Connect! Unite! Act! Editor: Please welcome palantir as our new CUA diarist for Sundays! I’m thrilled to announce him. Get ready for some learnin’ each week!]
I thought I’d never again diary storify on The Daily Kos. In truth I’ve posted some since the great disaster, but they were knock offs. No pain involved what so ever. This one stings a bit 😊. Painful because KosEdit doesn’t do what any decent html editor should do—what I want it to do—and if it can’t it should let me code it. For me it is about the words and the design, truth and beauty. I promise as I start this I’ll try with these limited tools to make that happen here but, ultimately, I write to inform and amuse. If I do not at least I hope you find this useful.
It occurred to me that you might find the Unicode system and emoji in particular an interesting topic to explore. Your smart-phone may be the most common and best interface to the emoji Unicode character set and the best way to view this article. Computer based web browsers are generally less than competent at rendering emoji.
Unicode is, if you don’t know, a system that is trying to encode all the character sets in the world! A system that makes it possible for computer systems everywhere to convey information in any any alphabet or logographic system. It allows you to send <H1> 😼 </H1> (which will no doubt not make ‘Cat Face With Wry Smile’ bigly—damn you 5, damn you to hell 😇. Ok Kos, I’ll put it on a line all by itself. )
