In this video I talk about why Detroit is not an outlier. While Kevyn Orr and Michigan Republicans took over Detroit's governance this past summer, something that many forgot to mention is that Detroit's problems aren't just Detroit's. Large swaths of almost every Midwestern City exhibit the same kind of decline that Detroit has, only with less publicity.

Until America addresses its trade policies that destroyed Detroit and the Midwest, decline will only continue.

Bryan Fischer of the American Family Association is comparing Pastor Terry Jones to Jesus, and the police officers who recently arrested him while he attempted to pull off another Koran burning publicity stunt, as the Pharisees. Unfortunately, Fischer is just spewing illogic and false claims of victimhood for perennial Jackass Hall of Fame inductee Terry Jones.

The University of Michigan invited "The Color Purple" author Alice Walker to speak at an event and then rescinded the invitation, although the reason isn't clear.

On her blog, Walker said her agent was told a U-M donor objected to her speaking at the Center for the Education for Women's 50th anniversary event because of her outspoken views on the Israel-Palestine conflict.

More than 400 Phillipino farmers coming stormed a test field of Golden Rice at the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Unit No. 5 at Pili, Camarines Sur in the Phillipines. Farmers uprooted the genetically modified rice in order to stop the planned commercialization of Golden Rice.

“The farmers have decided to take action against the ongoing Golden Rice field trials.” said Bert Autor , a farmer and spokesperson of SIKWAL-GMO. The group is an alliance of farmers, church people, students, academicians and consumers who oppose GMOs and Agrochemical Transnational Corporations’ control on agriculture.

California Senator Dianne Feinstein has proposed an amendment to the Media Shield Law that would limit the law's protection only to "real reporters," not bloggers and other alternative media.

During a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, Feinstein defined a journalist as "a salaried agent" of a media company.
