Ok, diaries should be longer than this, but there is no way to over analyze this simple fact.
In order “to protect the candidates” the Republican Convention in Cleveland, AND the city area around it, has been “declared” a gun free zone. It’s called a “Hard Security Zone.” (Otherwise known as the Chickenshit Hypocrite Zone).
A “zone” of safety not available to ordinary Americans, just their politicians.
As we all know, most Republicans are convinced that we are SAFER when every jackass in town is toting an assault rifle. They’ve openly said this a million times. They’ve filibustered every attempt to limit guns, or limit even where they can be carried. They want those guns for when the “jack booted government thugs,” or whatever dark hordes they imagine are coming to “get them,” in order to “protect themselves.”
But when they get together in a major American city, THEY WANT A GUN FREE ZONE FOR THEIR OWN PROTECTION.
If this was just mere rank Republican hypocrisy, we would expect it from this lot. But when so many innocent Americans are dying, or having their lives ruined, because of the insanely easy ability of Americans to buy and carry around weapons of all types EVERY DAY, and Republicans refuse to do ANYTHING about it, while repeating the ridiculous gun nut mantra, that ANY restriction on guns would “make us less safe,” this rises to a level far beyond mere hypocrisy.
Republican politicians are enjoying a level of security from gun violence that they REFUSE TO GIVE OTHER AMERICANS.
They get it at work (in the Capital) and they get it while traveling (on airlines) and they get it at their club meetings (like the Convention). Some of them (like Trump) actually have full time taxpayer provided protection against people with guns, even while spouting BS about the “second amendment” and packing heat “for their own protection.”
It’s all just a chickshit lie. A pose.
It’s really that simple.
And that reprehensible.
When most rational Americans continually ask, “Why would ANY civilized grown up think it’s a good idea to let people walk around with military weapons in a modern urban environment???”
The answer, of course, is THEY DON’T.
Even card carrying NRA Republicans want a gun free zone around them when they’re in a big city, or at work, or on a plane. They just don’t care about that same standard of common sense security when other American’s daily lives are concerned.
Republicans want to allow guns around YOU, they just don’t want them around THEM.
Why aren’t people packing in the Republican Convention, you wonder? Since it would MAKE THEM SAFER!??
Duh.
And there hasn’t been any media coverage of this Republican double standard mentioned. Even in the midst of crazy gun violence dominating the daily news.
Somebody sorta oughta point that out.
