Jose Canseco has become something of a poster boy whistleblower for steroids in baseball. He had a new book coming out this month and according to the SFGate, in the book he alleges that Bush knew about steroid and allowed it to happen while owner of the Texas Rangers.
The book says Canseco personally injected steroids into three prominent Texas Rangers -- Rafael Palmeiro, Juan Gonzalez and Ivan Rodriguez -- after he was traded to Texas in August 1992, and Canseco says in the book that President Bush, who owned the Rangers at the time, must have known about the steroid abuse but didn't react.
Scott McClellen officially responded yesterday, saying that Bush knew anything about the steroid use:
"If there was (steroid use), he was not aware of it at the time," White House press secretary Scott McClellan said of Bush.
60 Minutes is planning to air a story on Canseco's book.
