What ’s a campaign event without some good tunes? Before long, John McCain might find out. Last week, rock group The Foo Fighters joined a growing list of musicians- including Van Halen, and John Mellencamp- who are outraged that McCain has been using their songs without permission.
Going into tonight's presidential debate, John McCain didn’t just need a win. A knockout probably wouldn't have even done it. He needed one of those power-punch, drop-the-other-guy to the mat fight-finishers that go down in history among some of the greatest comebacks of all time. His failure to achieve it may have effectively ended his bid.
If Obama can manage to win just one of the eight states currently listed as "tossups," as well as all the other states in which he's currently leading by five points or more, he'll be guaranteed victory. Bad news for John McCain- Obama is currently leading in six of them.
In an hour and a half of debate, both Senator Joe Biden and Governor Sarah Palin claimed there were "fundamental" differences between themselves and their respective presidential tickets. But above all, one primary disparity between the two stood out: the former was about substance, the latter was not.
Joe Biden is a seasoned politician and a skilled debater. Sarah Palin simply is neither. She should be a sitting duck. But media spin is a funny thing, and Biden should know that just about as well as anyone. Simply winning the debate is only half of the challenge. More than that, Biden will have to win with an incredible degree of tact.

You know your campaign’s in trouble when you’re reduced to barring Maureen Dowd from the campaign plane. That’s what the McCain camp did last week. It’s a little hard to grasp, since she’s at least as hard on "O Bambi" as she is on McCain. Maybe it’s the tenor and tone of that caustic wit of hers. When she criticizes "O Bambi" it’s with love. However you choose to describe her criticism of McCain, love doesn’t seem to enter in to it.
Looking back on all the God-talk that in '00 and '04, voters watching this election might wonder: where did all the political religiositygo? McCain has been unable to capitalize on the religious contingents in Southern and rural states that Bush won handily. The Southern Strategy, once with Evangelicals at the forefront, has begun to crack.
For a guy who ’s demanding that everybody return to Washington to do their jobs in solving the Wall Street crisis, John McCain isn’t there very often himself. Of the 100 senators in D.C., John McCain is the lone claimant to the title of "worst attendance."
By Jwilkes from Eyes on Obama: When he finally does take the debate stage, McCain is going to have some serious questions to answer. And on behalf of the press that has been effectively shut off from McCain over the past several weeks, you can bet thedebate moderatorswill go right for the jugular.
It would be disastrous for republicans to be seen as obstructionistin a time of crisis. So the president invited both McCain and Obama to talk about the legislation.

What is it that women want? Since McCain chose Palin as his running mate, numerous editorials and news articles have speculated the role that she will play in energizing the female vote in McCain’s favor.
By Jwilkes from Eyes on Obama: If Barack Obama and Joe Biden win in November, that will mean that two Senate seats will need to be filled. In Delaware, that will almost certainly be Biden's son, Beau, who is currently serving as the state's Attorney General. In Illinois, Rep. Rahm Emanuel is looking like a strong candidate for the job.
