It's been a while since I've posted a diary, but this little piece just hit me while I was lying in a hospital bed this week.

I think this would be beautiful revenge in it's closing of the circle on the nonsense being perpetrating on a fine man by the brainless troglodytes posing as representatives of America.

Dedicated to all those real, hard working folk the Republicans think of as “a drag on the economy”

But who we know, in reality, are the backbone of this country.

Do the verses seem like doggerel? Perhaps.
Like the language of working folk? Certainly!
No pretense, no airs, no fancy footwork here.

Simple, plain, honest, work.

I will start things off with some quatrains about people I have met in my travels around the globe and I invite you all to add to them with your own 4 line verses in the comments until we have a true cross section off occupations and situations from all over the nation (or the world).

Our aim is to express, in poetry, the depth and breadth of the American working spirit; to throw it back squarely in the pasty, overfed faces of the Boehners, Cantors and Walkers.

He was close.

Race has been on my mind much lately
As on every thinking person's mind

Noise has little effect on deaf ears
They still believe the Earth is flat

In July 2004 a stroke caused me to be hospitalized. While there, an “insect bite” on my left arm was diagnosed as a virulent malignant “Peripheral Neural Sheath Sarcoma”.

I was immediately shipped to UCLA Medical Center where a “famous” surgeon wanted to remove my left arm and shoulder and he also told me I had less than 6 months to live.

Naturally, I sought a second opinion!

Margaret Whitlam died on March 17 at the age of 92. She was the powerful, outspoken, and well loved wife of Gough Whitlam the first Labour Party Prime Minister of Australia after the Liberal/Country Party coalition ruled there for more than 20 straight years.

I was fortunate enough to work on the campaign that reversed Labour's fortunes in 1969 and led to his election in 1972. I also knew his son Tony as a friend and business associate later in my career.

The poem below is dedicated to that wonderful election year when we were all young and starry eyed and the world was laid at our feet.

Gough is still with us (he's 96), I hope he is well and he gets through this time with much love from all of us Ockers around the world.

KosAbility is a community diary series posted at 5 PM ET every Sunday and Wednesday by volunteer diarists. This is a gathering place for people who are living with disabilities, who love someone with a disability, or who want to know more about the issues surrounding this topic. There are two parts to each diary. First, a volunteer diarist will offer their specific knowledge and insight about a topic they know intimately. Then, readers are invited to comment on what they've read and or ask general questions about disabilities, share something they've learned, tell bad jokes, post photos, or rage about the unfairness of their situation. Our only rule is to be kind; trolls will be spayed or neutered.

Most of the first part of this diary was published in April 2010 under the title "Myths of the Disabled."

Much has transpired since that time, including a diagnosis with a third cancer (CLL), constant neuropathic pain and the 8th anticonvulsant drug which seems, finally, to have stopped the seizures.

My life, however, has never been more interesting and full of joy. Presented for your pleasure over the mating ampersands...

A message from off planet.

They are watching us from afar and it seems we are worthy of some attention.

That the messages came in the form of poetry is fascinating and it is also interesting that my friends in Australia, France, India, Japan, and Brazil also received poetic messages this week. Every one of the messages was perfectly targeted to the country in was sent to and displayed a scholarly knowledge of that nation's language, economy, politics and social structure.

We all wonder about the next communication from these beings and what the future may hold...

Today marks the anniversary of my survival from the fourth round of chemotherapy in the past 8 years.

Still here, still strong, still grateful for all I have.

This diary is a retelling of a day in an infusion chair.

On Monday September 20th, 2010 I started on my 4th round of chemotherapy, this time for CLL (Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia)http://www.leukemia-lymphoma.org/... diary chronicles the first day of that therapy and hopefully gives you some insights into the great professionals who dedicate their lives to fighting all forms of cancer.
