Today is the primary in Alabama and Mississippi, and voters there will decide on more than just the Republican nominee for President. The AL-01 House seat will be decided, and voters will have the chance to defeat the most corrupt member of Congress (according to Judicial Watch) Spencer Bachus. AL-06 - Incumbent Spencer Bachus (R) faces a handful of primary challengers. The most corrupt member of the House of Representatives, Rep. Bachus is vulnerable to defeat and needs to be voted out for the good of the nation. WTH endorses Judge David Standridge for this seat. The winner of this primary will face a Democratic challenger in the general election, but will be the overwhelming favorite to win the general election.
AL-01 - After 10 years of below-average results, Rep. Jo Bonner (R) faces a tough challenge in the 1st district primary as Dean Young (R) has received the support of non-partisan PAC Campaign for Primary Accountability. Rep. Bonner is a party-line Republican, and Mr. Young is a self-made entrepreneur who has worked his way out of poverty. He favors pay cuts for Congress and has a record for fighting against tax increases. WTH endorses Dean Young for Congress. The winner of the primary will be the presumptive representative in Congress.
AL-05 - First-term incumbent Mo Brooks (R) faces a challenge from former Congressman and ex-Democrat Parker Griffith, who appears to be the only one that believes in his campaign. Griffith seeks to use his personal fortune to outspend the moderate Rep. Brooks who has taken less special interest money than any incumbent in Alabama, and it's likely that Griffith will outspend him in the end. An honors graduate in economics from Duke, Rep. Brooks is a moderate working to reign in the federal budget, and is endorsed by WTH.
MS-01 - Tea Party incumbent Alan Nunnelee (R) seeks re-election to a second term. He has exhibited the least influence of all Reps from AL or MS, and is the least moderate of the first-termers. Despite this, Rep. Nunnelee has taken more money from special interests than most of the incumbents from these two states. He is opposed in the Republican primary by former top JAG Corps attorney, judge, and mayor Henry Ross as well as activist and entrepreneur Robert Estes. WTH has no position on this race, though the numbers slightly oppose Rep. Nunnelee.
MS-02 - Bennie Thompson (D) is seeking re-election for an 11th term. Rep. Thompson is the strongest legislative leader in either MS or AL and is also the only Democrat in the House from MS. He is an average fundraiser and is challenged in the Democratic primary by local mayor Heather McTeer. WTH has no position on this race, though the numbers slightly favor re-electing Rep. Thompson.
