A friend of mine here in Western NC wrote a letter to a local paper and showed me a copy of the letter today. He makes this point very well and with humor. I felt many here would enjoy it.
"If you were reading to your children at bedtime and noticed your neighbor's house was on fire, would you continue to read until they fell asleep or would you call 911 and go to your neighbor's aid?
On 9/11, while the towers were burning and two other hijacked planes were in the air, George Bush chose to continue reading to some children in a school in Florida.
When we needed leadership from our president the most, we got Mr Rogers.
While Bush sat in that classroom pretending to be calm, two planes were heading for Washington. One hit the Pentagon and thanks to the bravery of it's passengers, the other one crashed in Pennsylvania.
If Bush had the courage and acted like those passengers, could the attack on the Pentagon been prevented? We'll never know, will we?
Bush has no problem sending our soldiers into battle because Saddam might someday attack the U.S., but on the day we actually were attacked, Bush was flying around on Air Force One as far from the battle as possible.
On 9/11, while under attack, Bush failed to give an order. He choked."
Come to think of it, when discussing the economy W does sound like Mr Rogers. "It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood".
