There seems to be a bit of confusion between Trump Voters and Trump Supporters. This seems to come up every time that Sen. Sanders suggests that we look honestly at why Trump won the election, the mid terms of 2010, 2014, etc….. Trump supporters are the ones out there waving their Rebel flags, punching hippies at rallies and would have Trump’s back even if he went out on 5th Ave and shot someone. Trump voters, pulled a lever for the man. Some happily and some while holding their noses. There are a lot of Trump voters that will not support Donald until the end. They don’t love Donald. They disliked Clinton, are concerned about jobs or maybe just wanted to see things get shaken up. Now granted, these seem like very stupid ideas to most of us around here but it seems sensible from some others perspective. Also, as hard as it may seem to believe it but there are people who voted for Obama twice and also voted for Trump.
The ones who were thrilled to be able to vote for “Their man” for once can go to hell. The reluctant voters are the ones we can help think about the issues and turn them around.
If we continue to treat all Trump voters the way we treat his supporters we will keep on losing elections. We will alienate those people that are interested in hearing facts and reason but instead, by calling them names, we will push them into the arms of Gingrich, Ryan, Pence and the conservative populace. We need to acknowledge that voting from Trump does not mean that they are inherently racist or sexist. Yes, they were willing to overlook that hideous crap and pull a lever for the groper but let’s not alienate them. Instead, let’s understand why they did and address some of those issues that allowed them to reluctantly vote for Trump.
Please don’t start with “we didn't lose, we got more votes in XXXX election, the system is rigged” debate. We keep losing the seats and that is what matters, like it or not. Sorry, no picture to go with the diary. I can't get it to add an image on Safari.
